German army needs to remove WW2-era names - defence minister

The names of German military barracks honouring a handful of World War Two officers should changed to show that the country's post-war armed forces have made a clean break from their Nazi past, Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen said on Sunday.

Having come in for criticism herself after accusing the Bundeswehr armed forces of "weak leadership" amid a national debate over whether there are right-wing extremists in the military, von der Leyen told Bild am Sonntag newspaper the barracks should no longer be named after Nazi-era officers.

Rommel being made to walk the plank again. I live in VA and lots of military installations named after Army of Northern Virginia generals. They are next to be expunged.

We think North Korea is a backward, isolated, cultish society but from the liberal point of view the NKs are miles ahead in the Erasing History stakes.

Yeah, and how long before Southern general names are removed from military bases?

Forts Bragg, Benning, Hood, Lee, etc...

...and when the SJW types are done with them, they'll call for the erasure of Jefferson and Washington, both slave holders, after all. Then the erasure of the U.S. Flag, also part of a slave holder history.

The bottom line is there is is no end to the purge.

Will we ever get to see the SJW’s purged themselves?

Dare to dream.

The only way to stop the SJW types is to turn the tables on them Alinsky style. Dig into their past and demand a repudiation of any flaw in their character. It should be say to do. Most of the SJW types are children of privilege. If they weren’t, they’d be busy at work at wouldn’t have time for their idiot protests.

Can I mention a few civil rights leaders whose personal lives were less than perfect? And therefore call for the removal of their statues, and the renaming of streets named for them?

And so on...

I can remember when I attended PLDC at Bad Tolz. I believe it was the old SS Cavalry barracks. Whatever it was, on the cast-iron banister railings, you could still feel the imprinted swastikas on the corner posts.

History ...

"...have made a clean break from their Nazi past"

Hold on a minute. What's with all these Muslims entering Germany? Hitler once said that Islam is the only religion he respected. The Muslim Brotherhood were his allies. When Germans say they're not anti-Semitic, they're usually referring to Arabs, not Jews. But the Nazis didn't hate the Arabs.

In the late 19th century, all nations of the world joined into a convention that soldiers who conducted themselves within the rules of war were to be treated honorably. That convention reflected the continuing growth of Enlightenment thinking.

The prior way of thinking, of intolerance and hatred, never gave up. Today, the prior way of thinking seeks to demonize enemies, whether Confederate, Wermacht, or whatever. No more distinguishing the haters from those who conducted themselves with honor, some even at the cost of their lives.

We, on the other hand, are told it’s wrong to judge Muslims by the haters among them. We can’t even use the expression “Radical Islam.”

We are the ones who follow in the principles laid out in that convention. Distinguishing the Radical Muslims from others. Wanting extreme vetting, so we can have some confidence about those we accept into our country. Distinguishing the Nazis from the German people. Seeking to restore the countries we defeat to democracy and prosperity. Being respectful of the confused loyalties and the acknowledging the embrace of an honorable peace by Confederates such as Robert E. Lee.

My father once told me that, in the next life, all who served with honor would be brothers. One day, I and my son will join with him and with them.

When I was living in Darmstact, Germany, US troops were housed in the Cambrai-Fritch Kaserne (barracks). This was a combination of two barracks, the Freiherr (Baron) von Fritsch Kaserne, named after the Nazi Werner von Fritsch, who commanded the German army until just before WWII, and the Cambrai Kaserne, named for the Battle of Cambrai, a German victory in 1917.

The US army kept the name, which I believe stands today, now that the barracks is once again a German army base.

Back in the early 50s I met a cousin who was being taken care of by my grandparents. He was a teenager when he served under General Lee in the Army of Northern Virginia.

Incredibly all of these German installations survived American occupation for years and years without these “names” being destroyed.

If Americans can put up with them so can Germans.

Well, they took all the fight out of their men in general, might as well take the fight out of their soldiers, too. That way the Muslim hordes will have no resistance.

I was across the parade ground from you. If you took the NATO small arms familiarization course in 1967, I was likely one of your three instructors.

Wait until you hear them sqwawk when we rename their airport Donald J. Trump International. They don't like it, we cut off the federal money for the levees, and they'll be under water again.
