Star Wars: Kylo is Fastest-Rising American Boy’s Baby Name in 2016
Screenrant ^ | 5-13-2017 | Jacob Stolworthy

The Social Security Administration has released its annual list and jumping 2,368 spots to 901 is Kylo, the character played by Adam Driver. It ended at 3,269 in 2015.

This comes as no surprise to BabynameWizard.com founder Laura Wattenberg who, the Associated Press reports, states that the names of villains are these days more likely to inspire parents than on-screen heroes.

The category’s popular culture-inspired runners up include Creed, Adonis (from Rocky sequel Creed) and Zayn, presumably after former One Direction singer Zayn Malik who is now enjoying a solo career in his own right.

Try reading off the attendance roll in a NYC school. Few of the names have less than 3 syllables. You never see Ann, Susan, Linda, Robert, James, etc. kind of names any more. You don’t see kids named for a relative much either. You have 10 syllable names from countries like Tibet, you have made up names like Quaneesha or La Dorian, and everything in between. They should also update the attendance sheet forms, because much of the time, half the kids’ names are severely truncated. You read off what you think is the kid’s name, and they raise their hand to tell you the other 5 syllables. It is no mystery to me why a lot of kids with long foreign names tell you, “Just call me Ryan (Jonny/Angie/Lisa/Ronny, etc.).”

Everyone wants attention. Everyone wants to be so “cool” and different. They wind up inflicting their kids with absolutely stupid names.

Along similar lines, I accidentally caught about 20 minutes of a show I’d never seen before, called Maurey (I think). I sat there in stunned silence watching it unfold. I couldn’t turn it off, as I was in disbelief. Stupid, stupid people arguing about who was the father for any number of the female’s illegitimate children. I don’t know how any country can survive with many of these people. Unbelievable.

Besides, his real name is Ben. And his dad is way cooler. Call your kids Han if you haveta name them after a SW character. Kylo is not cool...he’s even whinier than Luke, and that’s saying a lot.

What do you mean by the generic word "cool"?

It’s because he’s not a Sith.
He’s a “Dark Jedi”, but still a wuss.

I saw something on the news about a surgical tech named Darth Vader Williamson. That’s the actual name his parents gave him.

It's good training for when they get a job in customer service.

All our children had plain old fashion names, their children do too, and now the Great Grands do too. Grand #7 will be Savannah Joyce she is a little over 1 lb now, but come Sept 1 hopefully a good 7 lbs.

James, Bryan, Jeremy and Christopher. Even middle names were easy and normal. I just can’t see tagging a child with a weirdo name, most can’t pronounce much less spell it gives them a disadvantage in school and business.

The only name I am not satisfied with is my own Gail, why not Abigail, a much prettier name. No one ever spells it right either.
