KC woman forced to pee in cup on United flight

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City woman says she was forced to urinate in a cup on a United Airlines flight and now she wants to know why the flight attendant didn't just let her go to the restroom.

Nicole Harper tried to use the restroom on United flight 6056 on April 10th. A flight attendant ordered her back to her seat. The seatbelt sign was still illuminated.

"I said 'I'm going to need to use the restroom or I'm going to need a cup.' They handed me the cup which was about this big and I was like 'I'm going to need a second cup.'" said Harper.

Times to pee when traveling:

15 min before boarding starts
10 min after the seat belt sign is turned off after take off
40 before landing while the seat belt sign is still off
After you land at one of the airport restrooms

Plan accordingly

Excellent plan for those of us who are not “special snowflakes”.

What is wrong with United?

Could the problem of the need for rules vs the need to treat passengers with dignity be unsolvable in today's climate? With large, full-to-capacity plus planes and horrendous hoops to go through for boarding plus safety issues, there's no way to streamline things and keep it safe.

People who don't like it should vote with their choices. They shouldn't fly unless they absolutely have to. These planes have reached the tipping point....too many people, too little space, too many regulations. How can it be fixed without smaller planes and less people flying?

‘I’m going to need a second cup.’

We’re gonna need a bigger boat.

Simple solution. Go to the bathroom before you go on board the plane. Don’t take any drinks of any sort while flying.

This woman was probably acting like a bitch and treating the flight attendants like they were a class below her. She comes across as very dislikable.

There are special maxi pads for people who have bladder problems. this woman could have worn them and been prepared, she should have for seen trouble on an air plane. What was she thinking?

I get that everyone else is psychosomatic when it comes to using the bathroom after takeoff but people like her should have had a pad the size of a mattress ready for anything. People are just clueless these days.

Maybe she should have just flooded the cabin then next time they would have let her go when she said she needed to go.

If you had been on that flight and it had hit severe turbulence, would you have wanted a 120 lb (or larger) woman with a full bladder, landing on your head?

Neither United, nor its pilots nor the flight crews are playing a game of "Let's See Who We Can Make Wet Their Pants!"

The Seat Belt sign is on for a reason.

Severe turbulence causes plane to land in Tokyo

“If you had been on that flight and it had hit severe turbulence, would you have wanted a 120 lb (or larger) woman with a full bladder, landing on your head?”

Turbulence reason 10 of why I never fly and use Amtrak. No turbulence on trains.

Just don’t know how to deal with this really. When you gotta go you gotta go. She’s either gonna do it on the seat for the stewardess to clean up or someone’s gonna have to escort her to the bathroom to avoid a big old mess. Not sure what the answer is.

When flight attendants get long in the tooth, they have a future as prison guards.

Sorry, but that’s not forcing. Is the public too stupid to know that, and just accepts whatever is written?

The airline gave her no other option, and offered her a cup. The airline acted according to regulations.

This is in the news only because it’s United. From now on, everything that happens on United will be reported. Hey - United is a big airline! More things are going to happen on United than on little regional airlines.

Pressure change or flight anxiety could explain that.

:) Funny. United is a microcosm of America. What has happened to us? I’ve traveled outside the USA on several occasions and nobody is as mongrelized and rude as Americans. And this has happened in the last 30 years or so. “American exceptionalism” has been replaced with “fat, stupid and lazy.”

Was she booked as a medical and assigned a next-to bathroom seat or was she flying nonmedical and just made a comment to the flight attendant? Perhaps some of the responsibility lies with the over-active bladder person in that personal care items could have been used by the passenger prior to boarding, just in case, and then a freshen-up once the seatbelt sign went off? Wouldn’t that be kind of a daily routine? I just can’t imagine someone with OAB relying on bathrooms being available at a moment’s notice everywhere they go and not having a plan B. The problem she has is, a lit seat belt sign is pretty unarguable.

She said she told them before hand, this is all that is known.

I find the Germans the worst tourists.

I am a bathroom user. I hate public bathrooms and I hate those little bathrooms on a plane. Last thing I do before I leave the house is use the bathroom. Last thing I do before I board a plane is use the bathroom. I’ll also not drink anything to make sure I don’t have to use that little bathroom during a flight.

About 25 years ago, I was hurt on the job.
One of the company rules, was that an injury required a drug test.

So, at the hospital, they told me they were going to do one, as soon as they got the kit.

15 minutes later, I informed them that I could give them the sample.
About 10 minutes later I let them know that I was ready to give them a sample.

Another 10 minutes, and I let them know I needed to give them the sample.

ANOTHER 10 minutes and I’m on the gurney, legs crossed, begging to go.

FINALLY they bring me a bottle.
I explained that I had had TWO large (maybe Super Size, I forget) Diet Cokes on my way in to work.
It’s now been 2-1/2 hours.

They laugh it off and tell me they could get me another bottle if needed. (with as long as it took for them to get the first one??? RIGHT...)

So they close the curtain
and I proceed to pee for them...
past the full line to just below the rim.

Afterwards, drs would walk by and look in, to see who pee’d so much.

Imagine, in the pocket of the seat back in front of you, instead of just the Skymall mag, safety placard, and puke bag, they’ll add a urine bottle.
