She was at a friend's house, visiting for a few days. She has had Alzheimer's for over 6 years. She has not had any health problems other than that, but she is over 80. Today she had the classic symptoms of stroke, paralysis and drooping on one side, slurred speech, confusion, so her friend called paramedics and she is now at a good hospital.
MRI has confirmed stroke. All her symptoms have gone, and she doesn't even remember why she is in the hospital or that she had a stroke. The doctors are still running tests. She is being given the usual blood thinner drugs etc.
I'd just like to hear a little about anyone's experience with strokes where the symptoms disappeared so fast, and how the next year/s went for them, and if anyone has experience with a loved one having a stroke while suffering dementia.
Thanks for any spare prayers, too. I feel much better tonight seeing the photos of her playing her favorite video game on her phone. Will be traveling down to see her tomorrow.
Telling people who have relatives who are under a doctors care what to do is not helpful.

Obesity makes her want tons of food and she does not want to go to a place without access to a filled frig.
You need to cut back the food or they will for sure get the worst stroke and you would then be involved in lots of lifting.
If you have to, leave no soda, snacks, pasta, bread or rice around.

Yaelle: Your mom is in my prayers and I posted a few things that helped me with my mom, who had a recent TIA.
I apologize for these posts by Nifster who is apparently trolling other FReeper friends of mine as well.

Knock it off. Both of you and I mean on other threads, too. I also spotted the exchange on HarleyLady27’s thread.
Only 2nd hand experience with my husband. Went to ER where they did all the tests: CT scan, EEG, EKG, etc., but nothing showed up, so they were sending him home. I knew it was a stroke but who am I and where did I get my M.D.? They would release him as soon as he could walk around the little ER cubicle with help from a tech. He could sit up but could not get off the table and stand up. So they admitted him to a general “we have no clue” room overnight.
The next day they sent him for an MRA, deep brain scan, and found that the part of the brain that controls balance had had a stroke. Admitted to stroke unit for four days, after which he was to go to rehab but on release day said he didn’t need rehab, and he didn’t. 9 years later there is no perceptible trace of the stroke, except sometimes, after a lengthy walk, I can hear a slight foot drag every other step, but nothing, really.
Now, at the time he was 66, in very good general health, no mental issues (to speak of) and I don’t know how any of this compares to an 80-something alzheimers patient.
My only advice would be to insist on an MRA and watch her carefully. Good luck!

Thanks, sweet Onyx. She is back here at home, seems a bit tired, and now has to get used to a whole slew of pills, but was still working on a sudoku puzzle yesterday! And tried to bark a few orders at the grand kids. So it’s progressing along.
But from what several FReepers have told me on the thread and privately, most likely this was a little sign that her heart has a bit too much work to do, and 6 years so far with Alzheimer’s, she is probably on the home stretch.
She told me “the doctors say there was no evidence of a stroke.” Ohhhkayyy. Lol. Never has ever admitted there is anything wrong or different about her... feisty till the end I am sure.
