The Handmaids Tale on Hulu is a horror story. Its a world where a class of women are reduced to walking wombs with no right to their bodies or any babies that come out of them. Extreme violence and the looming threat thereof is everywhere. One of the main characters has lost an eye because she didnt submit quickly enough. A cattle prod is used often. And everyones afraid of being sent to the camps where youre worked to death.

Deeply stupid book.
If it had been written as a cautionary tale about Islam, it might have some value, but as a slam against Christianity and the Christian view of women, it is just moronic.
I wonder if this idiot realizes that he's describing exactly how violence against conservatives is being normalized at universities across the country.

And if I remember correctly, the catalyst was that some disease caused most American women to be sterile, and this was the cultural response.
No, it was more stupid than that. The elite males were sterile because of something that the military released. Younger, less elite males were still fertile but did not have access to fertile women.
Exactly
Next thing this person will write is how the Trump administration is like the New Founding Fathers in “The Purge.” ... or the powers that be in “The Running Man.”
Just stay out of Saudi Arabia, bud.
Hillary lost.
Maybe someone should clue the author in to why we have a 2nd Amendment.
But instead the author chose to portray what appears to be a modern spin on Puritan New England...Which, I can say having lived and studied the history thereof since childhood, has almost nothing in common with the society portrayed in the Handmaid's Tale.
I think the book doesn't specify where exactly Gilead is supposed to be or if it's supposed to be all or most of what had been the United States -- but somebody told me (correct me if this isn't true) that in the TV series Gilead is supposed to be a post-apocalyptic New England, which I suppose would add to the "Puritan" theme. I laugh at the thought. I can't imagine an event that would bring this godless region back to the principles of her founders.
Made into a movie back in 1990 with major actors in it. Anyone remember it?

She alone was worth the price of admission.
Atwood seems like a confused feminist. Either that, or some feminists may have hijacked her novel and repurposed it for their own ideology. Tough to figure out.
Here’s something straight from her, but in the fake news NYT.
