Baby boomers with cash and a campy bucket list take note: Movie director John Waters is hosting a summer camp for grown-ups in Connecticut. While the first iteration, slated for the third weekend in September, is already marked "sold out" (there were 300 slots) on the Camp John Waters page, dreamers of a follow-up will note that the $499 price of admission grants attendees access to a one-man show by Waters, a Q&A, a marathon viewing of his films, Bloody Mary Bingo, Hairspray Karaoke, and more, reports Dazed.
Guests also receive an autographed copy of his book Make Trouble, which costs less than $10 on Amazon and may be some consolation for the fact that alcohol is not included. Waters, who just turned 71, is known for such cult classics as Pink Flamingos, Cecil B. Demented, and Polyester. His camp marries what Art News calls "two of the more absurd developments in contemporary leisure"celebrity-based getaways and "a sort of developmental purgatory" that finds adults signing up for nostalgic recreation such as kickball leagues. Even so, there are at least 300 adults who thought this was a great idea. (Millennials can also sign up for adulting classes.)
As am I.

[[in Connecticut.]]
Lyme connecticut- hope ya’ll enjoy lyme disease (as well as several other diseases caused by ticks)
Gonna be a banner year for lyme carrying ticks as there was an explosion of mice due to warmer miler winters lately-
invest in plenty of tick spray and deet- take a shower after every outing, and check yourself over thoroughly every time you go indoors-
Sounds fun to me
Why not in Balmer?
Who is John Waters?
So, is this is a camp camp? I was hoping for an absurdist take on summer camp with algae-filled lakes, musty, moldering cabins, mosquitos beyond imagining, constant rain, hourly bear assaults, man-eating poison ivy, and intramural contests where the winners get to go home while the losers are forced to remain. You get the idea.
Must be the same guy who made a bunch of films that I’ve never watched or even heard of
Sure beats the Fyre Festival!
“Who is John Waters?”
Guy who made sick perverted movies in the 70’s and helped to mainstream perversion in to American society.
Waters is hilarious. I don’t actually like his movies, but his interviews and his “spoken word” tours (why it’s not standup comedy I don’t know) are amazing.
I think JimRob found out about your preversion, and that you were
organizing some kind of mutiny of preverts.
“Waters is hilarious. I dont actually like his movies,”
Yeah. The movies are pretty sick and people shouldn’t watch them.
But he is hilarious. It’s been 30 years, though, at least since I paid any real attention to what he’s done, except I did hear about a recent book about going across country or something.
Mostly these days he gets interviewed for documentaries about weird movies and the MPAA, and he does his spoken word thing, which spawned a couple of books. It was the documentary interviews where I found out just how funny he is.
Waters was a neighbor of mine in the ‘80’s. I used to walk my mongrel early in the morning and their was a path through Water’s back yard to pocket park the dog liked. The dog also liked sh*tting in Water’s yard. I never picked it up.
Maybe he invited people over to eat it.
Eww! Can’t stand that pervert.
Good description.
Waters probably liked it.
Casting John Travolta as Edna Turnblad was evil genius.
