I admire the effort, but the war on arbitrary apostrophes and incorrect plurals is a lost cause. I’ve given up hope. What I can’t quite understand is the rules of errant application, it seems to crop up most when a given word spelling changes with a plural. Are they being taught this? It has to be being passed in school, there’s just too much of it, an overwhelming force.
Kids these days are lucky to come out of the public schools with even a semi-literate command of their own language. The simple rules of possesive versus plural, are unknown to far too many Gen-Xers and Millenials. Reading comprehension and compositional skills among those groups seem to be at an all time low for the supposedly educated American public.
What's even sadder, is seeing many older people exhibiting the same dismal level of English skills. They grew up in a much better country, and most were taught well in school.
Grammar is not being taught as an independent subject. It is expected to be part of the overall reading program.
IMO, this leads to mass confusion. It is like building a house with no knowledge of a foundation or site prep.
