Fitbit data used as evidence in Ellington murder case

ELLINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Court papers show a popular fitness tracker called a Fitbit is a key piece of evidence in an Ellington murder case.

Richard Dabate, 40, was charged earlier this month with killing his wife, Connie, in December of 2015.

Court papers just released show data from Connie’s Fitbit, which records things like motion and heart rate. Connie’s Fitbit disproved Richard’s timeline of an intruder killing his wife.

Richard told police his wife was killed in a home invasion by a tall, obese man with a deep voice.

Police say Dabate had a pregnant mistress.

His Fitbit revealed a pregnant mistress?

Mine’s going into the trash right now.

Fitbit ratted him out, huh?

This is just like that story from a couple of months ago where Alexa provided key evidence in a murder trial.

What with our Smartphones and all this technology - “They” know where we are and what we’re doing 24/7.

Not his fitbit, HER fitbit, which placed her time of death outside the window when he says somebody else broke in and killed her. Time of death is frequently used to do that, all fitbit does here is give a more accurate TOD.

It’s like a “black box” for your body.
As we see, it can and will be used as evidence against you.

Remember the old Yakov Smirnoff joke, “In Russia, television watches you”.

Well today it’s really true.

Reminds me of the joke: “According to my Fitbit, I’ve masturbated for over 10 miles.”

Those guys who murder their wives always blame a home intruder.

Too bad this article is little more than a headline. How did this Fitbit data “disprove” the timeline, for example. Was it still on her arm when they found her? Etc. A good defense attorney will have quite a number of questions for those who use that data as evidence.
