Mild winters and big deer and mice populations mean more ticks and higher rates of Lyme disease diagnoses.
Milder winters, burgeoning mice and deer populations and a bumper acorn crop from two years ago mean this years tick season is expected to be bad and more widespread, experts say.
With that comes the threat of more tick-borne diseases, including the most common, Lyme disease.
States like Connecticuthome to the town of Old Lyme where the disease was first diagnosedare already reporting a higher number of ticks infected with the Borrelia burgdorferi bacterium, which causes Lyme disease, as well as other tick-borne pathogens.
The deer or blacklegged tick can infect humans with Lyme disease, as well as about seven other sometimes fatal diseases.(Emphasis mine)

My husband walked across the yard and back last week and found 8 ticks on his clothing, skin and in his hair. We now have tick and flea collars on our 3 dogs.
We’re in Massachusetts.
I try, the young ones are hard to catch though.
Get your yard treated. You have an infestation.
A friend of ours in Southern NH has Lyme. VERY nasty.
I haven’t had one in years and I’m in the woods all the time. Must be my blood type.
We sprayed down all 14 or our dogs just yesterday. I’ve only seen one tick so far this spring on one dog, so that’s a good thing!
We’re in SW Wisconsin.
It’s not time yet. wait for a little more consistent war temps and then beware.

I heard about that on PeoplesPharmacy. nasty. You don’t know you have that until waking up after a few hours, following a meal with meat, in very bad condition. to ER even
I got it once on Fire Island, where it is a real problem. A big red rash, and then when the white spot appeared in the center I knew what it was. Went to a Fire Island doctor and he treated me without even a blood test. It was so rampant out there he had seen it many times and had no doubts.
I don’t know whether it still is a big problem. The deer were totally fearless and walked right up to your deck.
Thanks for the ping. There is a campground near me that is usally infested with ticks in the summer. I’ll have to keep this in mind.
How insensitive of you.... its “chegroes” mkay?
Holy crap, developing allergy to red meat, game & even milk from one tick bite? Sweetie, you gotta read this! And take extra care while working outside, wouldya?
