A ferocious pit bull that has previously terrorized residents of a Rockland County town attacked a toddler as he played with other kids on an area street, leaving him mauled on the face and in need of stitches, officials said Friday.
Surveillance footage of the horrific attack, posted online, shows the dog charging at the 3-year-old, dragging and tossing him around like a rag doll at around 6 p.m. Thursday on North Cole Avenue in Spring Valley.
The boy, identified as Eli Mendlowitz, can then be seen struggling to crawl away before the dog pounces on him a second time.
Moments later, people can be seen rushing over to help, with one man pulling the canine away by its collar.
I see the dog run across the street and bite the child. I was shocked. I was saying, Oh my gosh! What happened over there? I saw him bite his neck. People were screaming. It was one second. It was a very, very wild dog, said witness Motty Deutsch.
Rachel Brown, a neighbor, said that the charging pit bull missed her 7-year-old son by a second.
My son feels so crazy right now. He couldnt sleep. They were just playing, said Brown, who added, There was blood. Eli was screeching and then he calmed down.
Responding police officers captured the dog and brought it to a local animal shelter for evaluation, police said.
Photos of the boy, posted to Twitter by the Hudson Valley Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council, show the side of the childs face and neck bloodied from the deep bite marks.

What nonsense! The only evaluation is whether or not the dog is rabid. And that is for the benefit of the child's treatment.
Rabid or not, the dog must be destroyed.
These dogs just aren’t domesticated for life among civilized.

Reminds me of the signs about “Don’t Feed The Wildlife”, and all the problems that causes.
Calling a Mooslime a dog would be a great insult, but accurate application in this case.
It’s NY, no one is allowed to have a gun.
Well, they can have a gun, but they can’t use it.
Rabid or not, the dog must be destroyed.

And in honor of ERF day and sustainability, give his carcass to appropriate homeless folks (beware of cultural appropriation here) for food.

Pit bulls are very similar to muslims, a lot of fools think that there are moderate muslims as there are moderate pit bulls, but in reality either one can turn on you and inflict a lot of pain.
Yes. If the dog got out again it would go hunting for children again. No one trained it to do that and no one can train it not to do that. It’s not a pet. It’s a weapon and it needs to be put down.
Whats is it going to take to put down every pit bull and any other breed that has been bred to fight and kill? These attacks just keep happening.
A rescue operation at a PetSmart allowed a pit to attack one of my Cavalier spaniels as we walked to the back of the store to pick up a pre-ordered matt.
The Pit’s mouth enveloped my Cav’s head and started to rotate and jerk him around. The handler stupidly tried to unlock it’s jaws, which the vet later told me is a good way to lose one’s fingers. I jumped in, grabbed the Pit by the face and gouged my thumbs into its eyeballs.
It let got immediately and rolled back. If the handler hadn’t been there to restrain it at that point it may have tried to attack again, but it was not happy about my thumbs, so perhaps that was enough. There’s no way I could have grabbed it’s legs and pulled it away, so I’m glad I didn’t try. Perhaps after injuring it that might have worked, but thankfully I don’t know.
Later at the vet, I realized that my Cav’s head was all wet. My wife told me that the rescue people responded to the attack by spraying it with water bottles. Like that would have saved my dog’s life.
The Pit was put down. Yep. But it was dumbass of the group to have tried to “rescue it” in the first place. This particular group will NOT attempt to “rescue” a Pit again.
Thanks for the information. It could be useful one day. I also recall advice to jam your fist down the dog’s throat if he’s biting anywhere in that area.
Jamming your hand into its mouth wouldn’t work on a Pit, and wouldn’t be advisable — the vet was very clear to me that one should avoid entangling fingers with a Pit’s teeth. But the lesson is clear to me— Pit or anything, don’t hold back and don’t be nice: just fight back and as dirty as you can. I don’t know why I reacted the way I did, but I just wanted to save my beloved pet — looked that bastard in the eyes, then jammed my thumbs into its eyeballs. Worked.
I don’t carry so I guess I missed out on the easiest solution... laughing at how that might have looked at a PetSmart if I had pumped 3 rounds into its head... :)
I guess the fist jam is only good if the hand is already in the mouth and it can’t be removed.
And I saw your post #16 too late as well.
I've said it for years. The Pit Bull terrier is an exotic breed of canine that can't be domesticated, except in rare (and unpredictable) instances.
They're the Muslims of the dog world.
That is a very perceptive statement. I agree.
The Dogs of Peace.

I've been telling people that for decades.
The Pit Bull terrier is an exotic breed of canine that can't be domesticated like other breeds. It should be regulated much the same as other dangerous animals that require special licensing to own.
