Despite the attempts of some historians to champion “African civilizations,” virtually nothing lasting to the world came out of lower Africa. Based on all rules of science, all accepted norms of government and morality in almost all other places of the world (except Islam), Africa has been one giant suck on the planet.

The amazing thing about European colonization was not that it “set Africa back,” but that after about 100 years of control and influence, the Europeans made no difference at all.

A great deal of this is due to the fact that by the time the Euros got to Africa, they all pretty much had accepted French style civil law-—the English colonies didn’t, but they still were hierarchical while ONLY the American colonies were based on common law and Protestantism and its bottom up foundations. The result was a continent that was no different when the Euros left except that a new structure of power justification replaced the old tribal structures.
