Fellow FReepers,
I am working on a new book and could use some expert FReeper researcher/knowledge help. The book is essentially about a history of evil. The 20th Century atrocities are pretty easy to summarize but I want to go all the way back to Cain and Abel.
Would you mind listing off any historical figures or events that you think show great evil down through the ages? I want to be as comprehensive as I can be and not skip things through my own lack of familiarity.
Here is a list of things that come to mind for me:
The Devil in the Garden of Eden
Cain & Abel
Tower of Babel
Sodom & Gomorrah
Haman the Agagite
Moloch
Herod Antipas
Herodias
Abimelchk
Jezebel
Herod "the Great"
Judas Iscariot
Elizabeth Bathory
Talat Pasha
Josef Mengele
Reinhard Heydrich
Osama Bin Laden
Saddam Hussein
Heinrich Himmler
Adolf Eichmann
Maximilien Robespierre
Kim Il Sung
Emperor Hirohito
Emperor Nero
Caligula
Attila the Hun
Genghis Khan
Leopold II of Belgium
Tomas de Torquemada
Mao Zedong
Ivan the Terrible
Idi Amin
Pol Pot
Adolf Hitler
Joseph Stalin
Vlad the Impaler
Fidel Castro
Robert Mugabe
Mohammed
Margaret Sanger
Sultan Ibrahim I
I think a key thread in history is human sacrifice and the movement of history against it. So that links up Abraham, and Jezebel, and Moloch, right up to Cortez and the Aztecs.
You can point out that people don’t always grasp their role in the dance, they just do whats in front of them.
Charles Manson
Known mafiosi and they would do sadistic things and laugh about it, like kicking an old man they robbed down his cellar stairs.
who the hell knows what the Triad does.
The Westies were Irish and would use cut off hands left in freezers to use at crimes they committed for the fingerprints.
Sure the Russkies have some good stories.
Albanian, Israeli mafia pretty brutal too.
Barack Hussein Obama and his cronies.
Rachel Carson
I know we can learn from the mistakes off others, but that sounds depressing. And you want to profit from what is already spoken enough of in thousands of books?
“..Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Matt. 6:34
How about a book that brings to light good deeds through the centuries, that hardly anyone has heard about?
La Cosa Nostra...........
The Romanian Christian People might dispute your characterizing Vlad in that category.
Most of the “impalees” were moslem invaders of his country.
You left out the Assyrians like Sennacherib. See here for a good review of torture.

Timur also known as Tamerlane
Add Che Guevara with Fidel.
“Known mafiosi and they would do sadistic things and laugh about it, like kicking an old man they robbed down his cellar stairs.”
I’ve become a Mafia expert because of the Harry Reid stuff I do. The guy to look up is Sam Destefano for being sadistic. Mentor to Tony the Ant Spilotro.
The Inquisition.
Interesting. Thanks.
What Harry Reid stuff?
Tamerlane the Magnificent.
Ivan the Terrible.
Torquemada/The Inquisition
Idi Amin Dada
Pol Pot
Ho Chi Minh
And a cast of thousands ...
Justice Blackmun.
So essentially you want to write a history of mankind.
Man’s existence is the struggle between good and evil
