Theres no tying. Theres no tying in baseball.
The most famous tie in major league history the 2002 All-Star Game was so infuriating and embarrassing to then-commissioner Bud Selig that it led to the Mid-Summer Classic determining home-field advantage.
We like resolution. We like tradition. I get it. Yet, I think the major leagues should allow ties if a game remains deadlocked after 12 innings.
I know that will anger folks who dont want major alterations made to a game that they find close to ideal as is. But the reality is we have a pro-active commissioner, and improving the view-ability of the product and lowering injuries are his obsessions.

can’t we all just get along?
“There are those that want to see the attrition and how teams handle that over a long, grueling season, and extended extra-inning games are part of the process. But my question is, beyond tradition, why are we putting players through these marathons?”
If a team feels it is burning too much pitching in an extra inning game, they can always just use a position player to pitch. If you are contending it might be more valuable to preserve your arms for the next series against a division rival than an interleague game. I’m generally surprised more clubs don’t make that choice sooner and just put someone flipping bad knuckleballs in.

This is so weird. I often have dreams that get prompted the following day. Last night I had a dream of what must have been a commercial, with the thing being “No Ties in Football” (I had been watching football videos before I went to bed.) And it showed a big burly football player. And then in walks Chuck Norris in a judo outfit! (I guess maybe there are no ties in judo?)
Anyway - just odd. It happens so often to me that I wonder if we don’t have a million goofy dreams every night, and then one of them will get prompted the following day. Of course it’s stupid stuff like this, and not the lottery number!
Oh - and I’m even stupid in my dreams; there are the rare ties in football.
There is a player with the Padres currently who is a catcher, outfielder, and pitcher.
The best player in Japan, Shohei Otani, pitches in his team’s rotation and is an outfielder and first baseman the rest of the time. he’s one of the best pitchers and one of the best hitters.
He wants to come to MLB.
Every team should be given a banner proclaiming it the best team in its city.
I’m pretty sure there are problems in the world less important than this one, I just can’t think of any right now. They’re just going to over regulate all sports like they did NASCAR. Who ever heard of time outs in motor racing.
Okay. So should the NBA, College basketball, PeeWee basketball, boxing, soccer, football, badminton, boxing, and husband and wife arguments.
We’ll hopefully see eventually if the NPB two-way player translates to MLB, that would be awesome.
I think if they eventually go to all 2-3 inning pitchers to limit times through a line up we will see more desire for two-way players that will get paid for that skillset. They will need the extra pitching if it ever goes that route, I think you will burn up your staff over 162 games if some of the roster can’t pitch and also play a defensive position or hit.

No ties in baseball. I would prefer expanding the roster to 26-28 players, or allowing it conditionally, like when postponements force double headers.
Better than allowing ties, but still not desirable; postponing a game after x innings, and finishing it on another day when the two teams play in the same ballpark.
Better yet, leave things alone. Part of the problem is teams want to have pitching specialists: pitchers who will only be used in the 7th, 8th or 9th inning.
Bear Byrant: A tie is like kissing your sister.
Ties suck. I vote for no ties in baseball.
There are ties in regular season MLB games.
In the All Star Game, there should be ties after nine innings.
In exhibition games, when appropriate.
In regular and post season games, no.
No ties!
No interleague games during the regular season!
No games after Halloween!
As my shooting buddy says, “it’s free baseball”!
Easy answer: The Mets' 2 ties have no affect because division champion would be the Cardinals who go 105-56-1 and have the best record in the division.
Now, all of that is out the window because closers and setup men have become as important to baseball as starting pitchers ... which means a team is far more likely to run out of pitchers in extra innings today than ever before.
I've proposed a change in roster rules that is intended for other purposes but could really help in this situation. Instead of having a fixed 25-man active roster, each team should be able to carry up to 30 players on its "big-league roster" and then activate only 24 players for its "game roster." In any given game, there's no reason for a team to have an active roster spot taken by other starting pitchers in the rotation who are never going to appear in that game. This will allow teams to add a few pitchers or a couple of position players to help get them through a long extra-inning game without wearing their entire pitching staff out.
Until the Dodgers come back, nothing will be right.
That, and Sunday doubleheaders.
If no winner why play at all? Find something else to do.
I think that was the game that ran into the wee hours of the morning on July 5th. There was a Fourth of July fireworks show scheduled after the game, and they ended up awakening people for miles around when they set off the fireworks after 3:30 in the morning. LOL.
