Why did Assad use nerve gas?
Asia Times ^ | April 7, 201 | Stephen Bryen

Then why did he do it? He used nerve gas to block a peace process agreed by the US and Russia that would turn Syria into cantons and reduce Alawite control only to those districts where the Alawite minority dominates.

That’s my view. Putin nudged Asad and told him to do it to see if Trump was for real; since he seemingly bowed and accepted the stays put on his Immigration Pause by the rogue judges in Seattle and Honolulu. They now KNOW that Trump has a titanium spine and 303 stainless steel nads.

Not believing this at all. There have been eye witness accounts that the only people around the area where the gas was released were rebels. The previous gas attack had some implicating Turkey. This is just more CIA propaganda, and not very effective propaganda at that. Clear out these incompetent fools and get a better propaganda team onboard at least.

Why would the Russians and Syrians want the world to think that they didn’t do it?

Assad using gas makes no sense whatsoever. After winning a six year war and told he’s staying in power, he commits suicide? But then again he’s a mad man so there’s that.

If we set aside the type of toxic material used in the bombing, another question appears. Does ISIS have planes and pilots able to drop chemical bombs?

Me either! I believe an investigation should have been done. It just doesn’t make sense - he was winning, Trump was backing off and letting him stay in power, there was a conference on Syria in Brussells that day... It just is very odd.

I’ve lived in Asia for over 30 years and the mindset is different. Maybe it’s the same in the Middle East, different!

ISIS has exceeded expectations since they first marched in a column across the desert to Mosul. They have great tacticians, excellent PR people, and a lot of highly educated people have joined up. They could get it through producing it, illegal transfer, theft, or from rogue elements in the Syrian military. Isn't it possible that a Syrian plane hit an ISIS storage area?

What nobody is talking about is President Trump was thwarted from talking to Putin and Assad because of the bogus story line about Trump favoring Russia.

“ISIS on the other hand has motive to use and likely expertise to make Sarin, but that possibility is totally ignored by supposedly smart people in DJT’s government.”

How do you personally know what General Mattis knows or doesn’t know?

‘How about he’s just another sick bastid like the rolly poley in north Korea.’

I have seen that argument made persuasively. Dictators tend to become paranoid. Saddam Hussein, for example, was hopeless paranoid—but Josef Stalin had him beat by miles. Paranoid people do not act rationally.

Assad was likely worried that Trump and Putin might forge a good working relationship. That would bode ill for Assad. The chemical attack has driven a wedge between Trump and Putin. Perhaps Assad anticipated that this would happen, or else he just wanted to throw a wrench in the works. Either way, he appears to have accomplished his goal.

Does ISIS have planes and pilots able to drop chemical bombs?

Does ISIS have truck drivers capable of taking their professional or improvised chemical weapons to a location that Assad is bombing, so they can claim Assad's planes did the damage? Yes.

I have been 100% consistent in my position that the only war I care about is the one here at home. Russia. Syria. ISIS. I really don’t give a ____. I care about defeating democrats.

A lot of factors can shorten sarin’s shelf-life:

Sarin without the residual acid removed degrades after a period of several weeks to several months. The shelf life can be shortened by impurities in precursor materials. According to the CIA, some Iraqi sarin had a shelf life of only a few weeks, owing mostly to impure precursors.[26]

The Assad gambit was worse than a crime, it was blunder. It was intended to humiliate Trump, and it blew up in Putin’s face.

For ‘tis the sport to have the engineer.
