It’s that time of the month and all you want to do is stay in bed.
If you are a woman employed in Italy, you might soon get to do that if you can prove you suffer from painful periods.
The Italian parliament is considering a bill that would require employers grant women three days of paid leave every month, according to the Washington Post.
To qualify for menstrual leave, the Post said, women would need a certificate from a medical specialist.
The bill, which says that between 60 and 90 per cent of women suffer from painful periods, was presented on March 13 by four women lawmakers from the ruling Democratic Party. It could be approved in the coming months, the Post said, citing Rome’s Il Messaggero.
Critics of paid menstrual leave say it raises privacy issues, and worry that it might deter companies from hiring women.

Lol - it’s worse than that. I had an old country Italian MIL and I didn’t want to be around her AT ALL. I assume there are some nice ones, but from what I experienced, they were few and far between. Such controlling, interfering trouble makers.

Womyn wouldn’t like that. The men would enjoy their time off more.
But women should be paid the same as men ...
This is why I think instead of 3 days, we need 3 weeks. I won’t settle for less!

Actually a number of primitive cultures DO exile menstruating women to a hut outside the village proper for a few days.

Must add that I thought the majority of dem women in our Congress were far past menopause age but from their words and actions, they are still experiencing “those days” - not every month but EVERY DAY!
I’m sure there are plenty of females on this forum who worked the same years I did (early 1950’s thru’ early 2000’s) and didn’t have nearly as much trouble as TODAY’S women do in the work place. How ever did we survive? If we didn’t like the job or work environment, we gave notice and walked out the door and in those early years, could be working at a different job the same week. Things have changed mightily since the GOOD OLD DAYS.
Or any woman for that matter.

I think men should get paid leave when anyone in the office is menstruating. It’s dangerous.
