Authorities say a 5-year-old Florida boy is recovering after being bitten by a rattlesnake that he mistook for a toy. The incident happened Saturday in DeBary, which is north of Orlando.
Volusia County Sheriff's deputies tell local news outlets that the child was playing in the backyard when he saw the snake under a jungle gym. It bit him on the finger and he was rushed to a hospital where he was treated with anti-venom.

The kid’s paris need to buy the kid different toys.,,
Is that the regular practice with a snake who has bitten a human. Is the snake usually killed when they can locate it?
The snake was only doing what snakes do when opportunity is there. I’m glad the child received prompt care though.
If I wasn't away from my regular computer I'd use this to start up the soon-to-be Snake/Reptile Ping List. Maybe tomorrow night...
Not too put too fine a point on it, but I believe it’s antivenom or antivenin.
Anti-venom sounds like a third-rate comic book character.
Yeah, kill the thing. And all the others you can find. It’s the code of the west and the right thing to do.
Hmm, the story is told of my family having a picnic many years ago. One of my uncles, then maybe 3 or 4, was discovered playing with a rattlesnake and knocking it with a small branch. The snake was rattling like crazy and totally apoplectic and somewhat stunned because it couldn’t believe the kid was doing that. Folks rescued my uncle before he could get bit.
Probably killed it to safely take it to the hospital for a positive ID.
Thank God the child will be OK.
Though no mention of the political affiliation of the snake.
Eventhough it’s dead we know it’ll keep voting D.
[[Though no mention of the political affiliation of the snake.]]
If it’s dead from the neck up ten obviously it’s a liberal
And maybe milk it for the venom.
I’ve dated a number of those.
I do the same thing when I find a centipede. No quarter, no chance. Luckily, no snakes here, but had more than a few close calls in SoCal. I hate snakes like they were liberals.
A friend told me the tale of her family enjoying a picnic in a field in Chandler, Arizona back in the 60s. Her little brother had some fun collecting “worms” in a paper bag.
The worms turned out to be tiny baby rattlesnakes.
No one was bitten.
Poor kid will be wetting his bed for years.
You go first...........
What? Like the Eiffel Tower ?
Uh, thanks, but I think I will leave that to the experts......
Centipedes scare me more than rattlesnakes. At least rattlesnakes warn you when you are too close and try to avoid you. Not centipedes, they’ll crawl right in bed with you. I’ve had that happen twice.
How common are rattlesnakes in Florida? I have a friend who lived in New Mexico and he said he would run into them all the time just walking down the street.
I think if I had a five-year-old and lived in a place where rattlesnakes were common, I would have taught the kid about the dangers of rattlesnakes.
