More proud Mexican history about the land USA stole from them.
Santa Anna rose to power as a “man of the people” but later said something to the effect that “the people” were too stupid to appreciate reforms and needed to be governed with an iron fist.

I hate when I’m sitting around minding my own business, just defending Goliad and then Mexicans come and execute me.

Let’s see if I got this right.
Mexico declares martial law on Texas and proceeds to “Gun Grab”.
This leads to Texas declaring its independence and whooping the Mexican Army at the San Jacinto River to become a Republic in 1836.
Mexico does not consider Texas to be free, but the Republic of Texas asks to be admitted to the USA in 1845 and this pisses off Mexico, in spite of the fact than President Polk offers to compensate them with cash, which they reject.
Polk send Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott into the disputed territory (Texas).
Mexico attacks, so Scott and Taylor basically whip Mexico and seize the Western part of the territories West to California.
Mexico loses and the Treaty of Hidalgo Guadalupe gives the Mexicans everything South of the Rio Grande.

We should have just kept everything.

As word of Goliad spread the “Runaway Scrape” began and intensified. The “runaway Scrape” killed more people than the actual fighting did.
