Twerking in full view of parents with young children, smoking joints and passing out drunk on the sand: Spring Break students caused chaos in Miami over the weekend and on Monday.

More than 5,000 college kids descended on the white sand of Miami Beach, Florida – causing a headache for cops charged with keeping the peace.

Many were smoking marijuana – a misdemeanor punishable with a year in jail and a $1,000 fine in Florida – and drug dealers were spotted openly plying their trade on the beach.

Really good to see the police intermingling with the partiers. Law enforcement helps a lot to keep the party a party. A few fines for littering, smoking weed or drinking booze in public, etc., should keep things under control. Hopefully, everybody gets home safe and maybe a little wiser.

Thugs and hippies could not be more different

Having been part of the latter, I disagree, at least to a point. I see them as two sides to the same coin.

I went to college in the ‘60’s and later in the mid ‘70’s. Then cellulite was observed in woman in their 40’s at the earliest. These creatures are in their early ‘20’s and sporting the blubber already. And the tats. Yech.

Traditionally Black colleges and universities should be thoroughly embarrassed by the behavior at that event.

...and what are they even celebrating?

You're kidding right? After months of sitting in the classroom for thirty hours a week, then studying in the library another thirty hours a week, all while holding down a part time job to help with the tuition, they deserve to let loose a little.

Thanks.

This will be an easy trip. Not going to be too cold. Maybe 28-29F at the coldest.

But, we just got hit with the ice storm and I’m a little concerned with melting and drainage. It may be too mucky.

I’m going to go recon the campground today.

I am going to sound like an old person, but when I was in college (1980s) people were not that fat! I think something fundamentally has changed in our food supply.

Also, nobody except convicts had a tattoo.

worst and funniest camping trip i ever had involved both cold and wet conditions back in 80’s.
Good friends and great times, laugh about it to this day, take the good with the bad , regal the younger crowd with how difficult we had it.

If down the road you can laugh about it, how bad could it be. I am not pushing up daisies so thank God, I still have my life.

A drug overdose and a guy sleeping in the hay getting run over by a tractor is it.

It is easy to point out unique differences between the two events. There are plenty. I’m pointing out the similarities. There are plenty of those too. Both are rooted in the complete abandonment of civilized norms and the love of God.

I never went on a spring break because that was an opportunity for me to work full time so I could pay my own way! I got one year paid for playing baseball, tested out academically and got credit for 12 hours of classes, graduated a semester early with student loans of ....$1700.

My life slogan is “It’s not an adventure until something goes wrong.”

Basically, I maintain that you always remember the difficulties and easily forget the things that went perfectly.

As an example, I used to run a junior high ski trip. I went skiing hundreds of times. I remember very few of them. But, I also remember a ski trip when I was ten years old. On the way back to the hotel, the car overheated. All we had for liquid was a large bottle of Sprite (pre-2-litre days). Into the radiator it went. Shortly thereafter, we got to the hotel.

That was a grand adventure for a ten year old.

I camp 20 or so nights a year and have some good stories, but the best ones revolve around solving problems.

Lots of unfortunate tattoos and a clientele that I would avoid while imbibing or at any other time. When the percentage of a certain demographic reaches more than 15% there is always a high potential for trouble. It looked like around fifty five percent to me. Very dangerous!
