Former Democratic U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said on Sunday in one of his first major speeches since leaving office this year that he would have liked to have been the U.S. president who ended cancer as we know it.
Biden, whose son Beau died from brain cancer in 2015, delivered an emotional speech at the South by Southwest technology summit in Austin, Texas, about continuing the work he led under former Democratic President Barack Obama in the so-called Cancer Moonshot, an initiative aimed at speeding up research into new cancer therapies.
He spoke of the need for prevention, research collaboration and big data to battle cancer.
Biden did not mention U.S. Republican President Donald Trump by name, but said in the speech before several thousand people he was willing to work with the current administration on the fight against cancer, which kills an estimated 600,000 Americans a year. The only bipartisan thing left in America is the fight against cancer, he said.

“Really, folks.” Yup. I think you are right. We have no word for someone who has lost a child.
I am still glad, though, that he’s not president or VPOTUS.
The Democrats probably aborted one or more babies that could have, had they been allowed to achieve adulthood, developed a cure for cancer. But, as one sows, so shall they reap. Sow death, reap death.
Partisan politics aside, I have empathy for him over losing his son.
My brother died of leukemia at age 37, and he was business partner with our father.
Our father was devastated.
He could have been the dumbest president ever, but that title is now cemented by Dorkbama the Muslim eunuch quota law grad.
“With the enactment of the National Cancer Act, the major components for our campaign against cancer are in place and ready to move forward. I am particularly happy that the year 1971—at the beginning of which I issued my call for a new campaign against cancer—can end with the signing of this landmark legislation.”

Biden wanted to be president period.
He ran for the office twice!
First time in 1988 and again in 2008.
It’s just too weird. His surviving son is now sleeping with his brother’s widow. He’s also married/separated. They all have kids involved. I have no sympathy. That’s not something I would do.
I want to establish a thriving and self-sufficient colony on Mars.
He didn’t do very well curing baldness....
Big medicine and big charity will not allow anyone to end cancer.
...and I would’ve liked to have been a 37 lb
seagull to chit on your forehead during Odungo’s second inauguration before the world’s telecast.
Good thing the tobacco settlements were used to stop smoking and cure cancer.
Donald Trump gets that honor.
I'm thinking we'd all love for you to end cancer and you don't have to be President to do it!
Enroll in medical school, graduate and go into cancer research!
That’d be one heavy gull. The largest gull (the great black-backed gull) averages about 3½ lbs in weight.
>>Its just too weird. His surviving son is now sleeping with his brothers widow. Hes also married/separated.<<
Not that unusual that shared grief drives people together. I am not a part so I won’t judge (except for the general sense of immorality of sleeping around).
...wanted it to be a large message...
“Biden says some odd things. But Id give him a pass on this one. Hes hurting, thats for sure.”
Me too. I lost a son five years ago. Just a few hours ago I was at Walgreens having a print made of a friend of mine who died of brain cancer to hang on my bike shop wall. It’s a horrible way to go.
Well, they do congregate in large flocks quite often.
Joe, you ended Hillary’s life long quest to be President. Same thing.
