2017 Harley-Davidson Street Rod Unveiled
Ultimate MotorCycling ^ | March 9, 2017 | Ron Lieback

Posted on 03/10/2017 3:25:55 AM PST by BraveMan

The mid-weight naked motorcycle craze is alive and strong in America. Yamaha has its FZ-07. Kawasaki its Z650. Others have updated previous mid-weights due to this craze, such as Ducati with its Monster 797 and Triumph its Street Triple 675.

Harley-Davidson wants a bigger piece of this market. It’s answer? The 2017 Harley-Davidson Street Rod, which is the third member of the Street family that includes the base 750 and 500.

This Street Rod offers more aggressive styling, and claimed improved handling over the Street 750. The engine’s design was borrowed from XG750 flat track platform, and makes a claimed 18-percent more than the base Street 750, bringing it to around 70 base horsepower.

“The Street Rod will put the thrill in any urban commute,” said Mathew Weber, Harley-Davidson Chief Engineer for the Street Rod. “We’ve paired the potent new High Output Revolution X 750 engine with a revised chassis and up-rated suspension components to make the Street Rod quick, light-handling and easy to ride.”

We’re heading to Daytona Bike Week to ride the new Street Rod, but for now, here are the Ultimate Motorcycling Fast Facts.

Sweet. There should be a motorcycle club.....”KLR Konservatives”......:) I’m thinking of buying another KLR for our vacation condo in Orange, CA. Either a KLR or a Vespa. Never had a scooter. They look fun. Cool Red KLR. Thanks.

A V-Rod makes a badass trike.

My Dodge Magnum Hemi whispers the same things to me.

*Most* of the time, I ignore it.

Well, sometimes....sort of...but then ‘Radar Love’ comes up on my iPod playlist and...

/thank God gas is cheaper than it used to be

You have *no* idea how much I want a Moped, scooter, whatever.

The Harley is great for the open road but I want something to putt around my local goat paths, taking photos.

I lust for your ride!

:D

But much easier to repair on the road.

I’ve sat patiently while another biker slipped a connector link on and then we all took off again, and I’ve sat forever waiting on trailer to come because a rider broke a belt.

You have NO idea how many times I’ve been asked if I’d sell it!
No way, no how!

You should bitch to corporate.

Our local dealerships employees all treat us like gold.

The only “grief” I ever get from them is their disappointment, if I have not brought along a Dobermann or Boa when I visit.

:D

70 hp?????

And people pay real money for that? If you want to go fast you gotta have horsepower. And lots of it.

Going fast and HD are oxymorons.

Great looking FZR, a twin to the one I bought back in 88, sold about ten years later for $3500 to a buddy. He ended up scaring himself and sold it in a few months. I did have the factory cowl seat on it, good for looks mostly. Stock other than some stainless headers from a company that escapes me. Fisrt bike since an old Yamaha RD350 that would raise the front wheel on acceleration with no assistance. Not a small feat with my 200+ on board.

“I don’t ride Harleys, I like to go fast.” Gets me in trouble every time :)

Hmm. Maybe I should just borrow your boa...

My solution was to simply take my business elsewhere. I have the Harley OEM parts catalog with the exploded views, so now I just look up my own parts and then find them online.

BTW the last straw was when I went to the dealer to get a couple of primary case gaskets in anticipation of a centrifugal clutch spring upgrade. Held off doing the work for a few months, and when I finally got around to doing it, I discovered they gave me the wrong gaskets.

I took them back to the dealer and they refused to exchange them due to the length of time that had passed. I argued that the time period is moot since it was their fault. She disputed that it was their fault. So I asked,

“Why the hell would I ask for primary gaskets for a bike I don’t own?”

The clerk shrugged her shoulders and said, “How would I know?”

What a jerk clerk!

Himself is a dealer for many Harley parts companies like V-Twin and Midwest, so, unless we need something *right now*, he just orders them at a deep dealer discount, anyway.

However, he’s really tight with a lot of the parts guys and mechanics, so I spend a lot of time sitting outside staring at the ants on the sidewalk, while he yaps with the guys for hours.

They look forward to me showing up with Pinky the Boa or Seven, the Dobermann, though why they get happy over her, is a mystery.

She’d just as soon bite them as look at them unlike Pinky, who loves to “hug” everyone.

:D

No. You’re confusing an oil cooler with a radiator.

For some reason, the British have never perfected the starter.

Boy howdy, true dat. Automotive AND motorcycle electrical systems are a mystery to the Brits.

This Harley would directly compete with the T-100. I’d be willing to give it a try. However, I feel like I always get dissed or ignored when I walk into a Harley dealership.

Yep, me too, especially when I was looking for parts for a '73 Harley-Aermacchi-AMF SS-350. Those know-nothing a55holes didn't even want to be in the same room as me.

Speaking of Trikes! Mrs. JD has been harping on me to get back into the wind, and has been drooling over the new HD Trikes for a couple of years now...

So now I have to build a new garage as we went down to our local dealer and bought a new 2017 107 HD Trike! We’re both stoked!

Spendy!!! But why not?

In terms of simplicity, the most beautiful bike I ever saw was a completely restored/re-engineered 1974 Norton Commando
