Great pick. Loved the instrumental version more than the one with lyrics by Vicky. The harpsichord run is my favorite part.

Another hit all instrumental in mid-68 was Grazing in the Grass by Hugh Masekela.

If you like standards (as I do) and a good mix of oldies you may enjoy this station. I like to stream it when I need a break from talk radio.

I don’t know why, but I always get that song confused with “Classical Gas.”

One of the few purely-instrumental pop recordings ever to make the charts; Mason Williams’ “Classical Gas” and The Village Stompers’ “Washington Square” come to mind as well.

That one doesn’t ring a bell :-) OTOH, as soon as I clicked on Post, I thought of Herb Alpert’s “A Taste of Honey.”

How about “ Coffee Cold” by Galt MacDermott?
One of several good instrumentals which got airplay after “The Thomas Crown Affair” came out.

Early in 1968, at the same time "Love is Blue" was riding the charts, another beautiful French import,
Ame Câline (Soul Coaxing) by Raymond Lefèvre was getting airplay on Adult Contemporary and even Top 40 stations. It nosed into the national Top 40 at #37.

Scorpio by Dennis Coffey. That was a hit in the fall of 1971. A year later, when I was in the Occidental College band, we performed that tune.
To: Fiji Hill
Dennis Coffey is probably the greatest guitarist nobody knows of.
Chances are, if it’s a Motown song, and there’s guitar on it, it’s Dennis. And he’s a white boy.
