Man shoots 70 feral hogs in one night

If you've ever wanted to live inside of a hunting video game, Ray Shinpaugh has done it.

A video of him shooting 70 feral hogs in one night in North Texas has been blowing up on YouTube. Posted on Feb. 8, it's already attracted nearly 225,000 views.

According to the video's description, Shinpaugh uses thermal optics in the nighttime hours to locate groups of hogs feeding in fields. He then moves quietly between the pigs and any adjacent woods before beginning the chase with a thermal monocular, laser, shotgun and 00 buck shot. Shinpaugh has perfected the art, and is a remarkably good shot, especially considering he's shooting running pigs from a moving vehicle.

Shinbaugh's technique is far more efficient and effective than other more passive methods of eradication, like trapping. Hogs are extremely intelligent, and quickly learn to avoid anything that looks like a trap. What they never avoid is the food available in fields.

Feral hogs are a real problem here in Texas.

****************

Yep with some 2.5 million they are rampant.

Here’s another thread from a couple days ago about the hog
situation if anyone cares to scan thru it;

He needs something like a Beretta Extrema semi auto. Wasting too much time racking that slide.

Yep. Saiga 12 with a bunch of pre-loaded drum magazines would be a better call than a pump. He's in a vehicle, do a pintle mount.

We’re starting to see them here in Northern Ohio in the Cuyahoga Reservation. Coyotes too.

Better than the approved warfarin laced pesticide they want to use.

Sheana, get a couple of cats and put them up there in your attic. (be sure no poison is left around)

Problem over!!

Seriously, cats will get rid of your rats. We have a big black tom cat who keeps our place rat-free. Only problem; 'Tommy' often will bring me a dead rat as a 'gift'. (neither he or any of our cats will eat them)

Once when he had been 'missing' for awhile, I heard him 'meow' outside the front door. I was so happy he'd returned home that I picked him up and hugged him- and felt something wet and cold against my cheek. I took him toward the light and in his mouth was a big, dead rat! I had inadvertently hugged a RAT! I almost freaked out!!

Bless his little heart, he thought he'd brought me a real gift.

Beautiful, sweet cat though. (see him in my bio)

I've read that cats are just hard-wired to kill rats/mice, and they will often bring 'the kill' home as a gift for his master or to show what a mighty hunter he is. :)

Amazing video of a guy shooting hogs with what appears to be a shotgun from a helicopter.

He's an incredible shot. Rarely needs more than one to kill the pig.

According to Ted, they’re editable. He sends them to homeless shelters.

“Ted Nugent killed 455 pigs with a machine gun and dedicated the supposed massacre to Bill Maher and “animal rights freaks.””

LOL! I do like this guy.

“Is there any use for the meat?”

You can eat them but they are rather tough. You have to cook it well because of parasites.

I don’t like cats. These are tree rats not normal size rats. They’re huge. We have cats all over the neighborhood and they leave the rats alone.

And you know the vehicle must sit up high because you can hear it running over some of the hogs and them are some big hogs. I’d love to see the vehicle he was riding in.
