Thank God Mt. Vernon is privately owned and not controlled by left-wing democrat extremists.
1. I’m surprised it took them this long.
2. By Montgomery County standards, this is positively enlightened. I would have expected them to melt the statue down, erect one of an oppressed minority in its place, and issue a heartfelt apology for anyone and everyone who might have been offended at the previous statue’s former existence.
3. White’s Ferry is far more rural than Rockville, so the presence of the statue is less likely to offend delicate sensibilities.

I will note that it's hilarious that this is Democrats' idea of good government: Forcing the taxpayers to foot the bill for relocating a statue. "Don't you see, if we move it from this spot, to this other spot ten miles down the road, all racial wounds will be healed! Don't you blacks feel your lives are tangibly better today?"
I'm still on the wall as to the necessity of the Civil War....and further...what the hell was won??
This was Washington's south and Jefferson's south. The war was all about money and power...not slavery.
Slavery was on its way out. The industrial revolution changed the world.

Can’t discern if Richard Montgomery (whom the county was named after) did own any slaves or not. He was born and raised in Ireland, served in the British Army for a long time (was involved in the Seven Years War) and eventually moved to Kingsbridge NY (now part of the Bronx) in 1773, where he owned a farm.
Being a Democrat means lying to ones self constantly....lie about the number of genders, lie about islam, lie about immigration and make yourself believe that removing a statue will actually somehow make race relations better.

Factoid: Montgomery County MD has more public debt than the entire state of Montana.
Many moons ago, I was doing some contract work in the area and worked with this Indian fellow (dot, not feathers). I like to explore on the weekends and made my way out to that ferry. Pretty area up there on both sides of the river.
So, I was telling my work buddy, Singh, about my weekend adventure and maybe it was somewhere he could take the wife and kids for a nice drive.
He said he won't drive out in the country anymore because that's where the Klan is. I asked him how he knew that?
Haha! He said he knew when he saw three crosses up on a hill beside the highway. I laughed and told him maybe yeah, he's better off sticking to the suburbs. SMDH, Heck, I probably did those nice country folks a favor by not cluing ol' Singh in... ;-)
I wonder what the demographic makeup of the crew will be.
I think that for every Confederate statue they remove, they should erect a statue of one of the thousands of blacks that fought for the Confederacy.
