This was Washington's south and Jefferson's south. The war was all about money and power...not slavery.

States own articles of secession say they were fighting over slavery.
As for blacks, perhaps the Southerners should have been left to what they were doing, being a white minority among slaves. That would work really well; then, their white supremacist culture screwed up the north by the fleeing slaves to Chicago and Detroit.
If one throws out Neo-Confederate historical revisionism, it should be answered.
