Lake Berryessa's Glory Hole is spilling over for the first time in 10 years.
The reservoir two hours north of San Francisco reached full capacity and an elevation level of 440 feet Friday at 6 a.m., and began spilling, according to U.S. Bureau of Reclamation spokesperson Janet Sierzputowski.
The unique spillway operates similarly to a bathtub drain

“Its in Yolo County and Napa County, about 50 miles northeast of Frisco..”
Yolo? My son says Yolo al, the time. Means you only live once.
The outflow pipe at the other end is a mecca for skateboarders. Not this week, though.
oh i see.
its always been lots of fun to notice that WQMY906 emergency radio communications tower that serves the most densely-populated parts of the area.... is sitting right by the earthquake fault in the Berkeley hills, ha!
but they got other, farther-away towers too...so maybe ok?
and anyways, since CalBerkeley stadium is right on the fault line, as is downtown hayward (lots of old brick buildings) and part of the BARF train line....well, WTH? Apres Moi, Le Deluge...anyway, eh? ha!
You might also find it interesting to know that in empties into “Putah Creek”. Let me know if you have trouble translating “putah”.
Ex-Lax?
.
Actually the radio tower is at least a mile above the fault.
The fault runs along Arlington.
yes. close tho.
and the greatest damage is generally away from the fault lines ... anyway..... mostly on fill dirt (and multi-decker or heavy structures) like... in 89 the greatest damage was in the Marina (fill dirt from the 06 quake), Burlingame Hyatt (big heavy building on fill dirt), SF Bay Bridge (built down thru bay of course), eastshore freeway (collapsed, sandwiched at the first segment built on fill dirt), and geologists said that had the quake lasted longer than 29 seconds then Foster city and redwood shores (all built on bay mud) would have completed liquification (and buildings would have sunk into the mud).
but none of the above high-damage sites is on the quake fault line, nor are any of them near the epicenter down at Loma Prieta by San Jose
Glory Hole.....I’m think car parts
The headline was meant to get everyone in SF very excited....

I can think of some Californians whom I’d like to encourage to get a closer look.
Lying media lies again. It’s not unique. There’s one on a small lake in Dallas. It’s impressive to see it in a flood. Unfortunately, it isn’t really big enough to get the job done.
Aerial:
North, not south of SF.
In 1997, a UC Davis graduate student was pulled into the glory hole while swimming and drowned.
What an awful way to go. Poor kid.
The water level can be 15 feet above the hole for max flow!
