A huge well of molten carbon that would spell disaster for the planet if released has been found under the US.
Scientists using the worlds largest array of seismic sensors have mapped a deep-Earth area, covering 700,000 sq miles (1.8 million sq km).
This is around the size of Mexico, and researchers say it has the potential to cause untold environmental damage.
The discovery could change our understanding of how much carbon the Earth contains, suggesting it is much more than we previously believed.

And it’s probably been there for a couple billion years ...
That red thing looks like a hockey player on one skate about to slap the puck towards D.C.

Scientist locate Hell. Film at 11:00.
Stay tuned for a report from our on-site reporter.
I’m still trying to figure out how molten carbon is different than molten lava ?
And one of the “answers” for carbon is to store it underground. Could these things collide like matter\anti-matter ?

You say it’s molten carbon, but I see an elephant running toward the Gulf of Mexico and a donkey trying to hang onto CA,OR,WA and NV...
Yeah, but that is iron, not carbon.
It would create ferrous oxide on the way out. And as we know, Ferrous oxide doesn’t sleep.
Sounds like pure HOGWASH and BS.
Give me grant money or we’re all gonna die
Come and listen to my story about a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed,
And then one day he was shootin at some food,
And up through the ground come a bubblin crude.
Oil that is, molten carbon, global warming.
Computer generated fake science published in fake news.
Someday somewhere, someone must pull the plug of this post-modern tiresome junk science.
with chupacabra McCain nipping at their heels
Must be from those 97% scientists with their usual scientific accuracy...:^)
I count 22 occurrences of the word COULD on the web page.
The word WILL appears zero times.
Carbon doesn’t have a liquid phase at the pressure of the Earth’s surface, it’s solid or a gas at ~3700 Kelvin, but not a liquid. It sublimates as does dry ice when heated.
200 miles down it might fall under the category of a super-critical material, too hot to be solid; but, under sufficient pressure to be as dense as a liquid. Lot of chemistry is altered at very high pressures.

Most subduction zones are dragging carbonate rock and a bit of water down to the mantle. Carbon and hydrogen can add up to CH4 or methane.
This may be the result of the Pacific plate diving under California. They are going to be hit hard if a carbon tax is ever applied!
Those darned Russians again!
Best GIF ever!
Yes that is much better. Thanks for improvements. :)
