Multitaskers who need to watch video while crunching numbers in a spreadsheet will be delighted to know Windows 10 soon will be able to accommodate miniature video players better.
A test version of Windows 10 released Wednesday comes with a feature called "compact overlay window" that will always float atop your other windows. That could be handy for holding Skype video chats, keeping an eye on political hearings and yes, watching Netflix or the big game when you're supposed to be at work.

Gonna have to read this when it has more input.
I had a ATI All-In-Wonder tuner app 15 years ago that did that. Way to innovate, MS!
My 1995 Macintosh Performa 638CD did that.
The problem these days is how to keep all the friggen little video windows from popping up and wasting your bandwidth. What a bunch of maroons. The problem with having an Indian born and raised CEO in charge of mass of H1B visa workers is that none of them have a good idea of what the average American computer user actually wants.
I have a Windows 10 computer that I use somewhat infrequently, every time I turn it on... it starts downloading and installing updates and often wants a restart just about the time I am hoping to print a document or something. The machine is a joke. The first rule of any operating system should be not to get in the way of someone trying to accomplish something.
Most likely, Windows 10 will watch you as you are watching TV on your PC. Sadly, although we won the Cold War, Big Brother still gathers strength.
I've since upgraded to Hauppauge's external USB box with it's own processor to record directly to a MPEG-2 .ts file, if desired.
If you are running Windows 10, I hope you take the time to either prevent the upgrades or be ready to run disk cleanup.
Microsoft’s decision to force everyone into the upgrade pool for the latest builds of Windows 10 is a real annoyance and a brain dead decision. For those running SSD’s, those old windows system files chew up space. Upgrades suck and there is always the possibility of an issue. I do clean installs only, even on my Mac. It’s really easy to forget to uncheck that setting when you are on your third clean install.
If you run Windows 10, do yourself a favor and make a backup image using the built in tools.
It’s like Microsoft doesn’t know a damn thing about their customer base. Windows 8 was such a boondoggle you would think they would learn. User’s HATE change and im convinced Microsoft is trolling their customers. Windows 10 includes it every build.
“Did you just learn where everything was in our stupid settings menu? Oh we moved things around again. We could include all those settings in Control Panel but why have one menu when you can have two? As an added bonus we’ve gone ahead and set your network profile to public. Thank you for using Microsoft and dont forget to use Bing before you throw your computer in a Lake.”
Should be a real productivity booster!!
Please add me to your ping list.
I’m still running Win 7 Ultimate and still happy with it - but these things are good to know.
This is a “productivity” feature? Disabled...
Okay, you’re on! Welcome!
