[October 2016] South Florida's plan for traffic: 'We're going to make them suffer'

Faced with ever-increasing traffic jams, South Florida's public officials have come up with a plan: Make it worse.

Instead of fixing the problem, government officials are deliberately adding to it in hopes we'll all walk, ride the bus or take the train.

"Until you make it so painful that people want to come out of their cars, they're not going to come out of their cars," Anne Castro, chair of the Broward County Planning Council, said during a meeting last year. "We're going to make them suffer first, and then we're going to figure out ways to move them after that because they're going to scream at us to help them move."

A Sun-Sentinel analysis of South Florida's roads and development plans reveals how planners are creating neighborhoods in urban areas where gridlock is the norm.

Self driving cars are part of the commie plan to put Big Brother in charge of our movements.

Their goal is to eliminate personally controlled conveyances altogether, and put the whole population into a system of autonomous people movers controlled by them.

The liberals are doing this where I live, San Jose, CA.
They are actually removing traffic lanes and installing UNUSED bicycle lanes.
They are permitting 3 &4 story breeding pens into every available square foot of dirt without any road improvements causing traffic snarls where there should be none.
In a sane world their heads would be on pikes....but then again it’s early...

They've been doing this for years in San Francisco. Lots of "No Left Turn" signs, lots of "One Way Only" conversions that get you no where, conversion of two lanes in each direction to one lane with a bicycle lane only, outright banning of cars on streets only permitting buses, placing parking lanes within traffic lanes, etc. All planned to make driving a car miserable and to push people into taking a bus or taxi. Unfortunately, the buses are stymied by the streets clogged due to the crazy rules. It makes it difficult to get around by buses and taxis, and bicycles and pedestrians are often hurt or killed in the congested streets, so people opt for the cars instead. The bureaucrats are gleeful in the chaos they create.

Do I understand you correctly?

A person who used the Metro Rail in Los Angeles cannot park at the station near their home? There has to be a person who takes them to the station & then picks them up again at night?

For the last 8 years the Feds (DOT under their "Environment section) has offered cities federal dollars to REDUCE busy streets from 4 lanes to 2 lanes & use the remaining footage for bicycle lanes and wider sidewalks.

I was a bit elliptical when I wrote my first post, but this activity is some of what I meant by hoping for better policy.

There are “some” stations where you can buy expensive monthly passes but not nearly enough to satisfy the demand, in CA we are governed by ideological morons. We are a one party state. In statewide elections we now mostly have 2 dems running for those offices. Reps have been basically eliminated. 35 years later our gov moonbeam, Jerry Brown, is very popular ugh!
