[October 2016] South Florida's plan for traffic: 'We're going to make them suffer'
Sun-Sentinel ^ | October 28, 2016 | Susannah Bryan, Emily Miller

Faced with ever-increasing traffic jams, South Florida's public officials have come up with a plan: Make it worse.

Instead of fixing the problem, government officials are deliberately adding to it in hopes we'll all walk, ride the bus or take the train.

"Until you make it so painful that people want to come out of their cars, they're not going to come out of their cars," Anne Castro, chair of the Broward County Planning Council, said during a meeting last year. "We're going to make them suffer first, and then we're going to figure out ways to move them after that because they're going to scream at us to help them move."

A Sun-Sentinel analysis of South Florida's roads and development plans reveals how planners are creating neighborhoods in urban areas where gridlock is the norm.

This is coming to a city near you, if it hasn't already. They're from the government, and they're here to help you suffer.

I just found this article from a link on another site, which I should really check more often. I was at that site looking for comments about the new Secretary of Transportation (there was a mention). I hope to see saner transportation policy in the new administration than what's described in this article.

This is why we need the PEACE Act

The Public Employee Anti Congestion Environmental Act.

All Public Employees shall use Public Transportation to and from their respective workplaces. A Violation of this law is a Felony, punishable by a Mandatory Minimum of 5 years in Prison and a $1 Million dollar fine.

That’s “representing the people” in the Age of Obama.

Pushing public transport has been going on for ages, but it not as usually open as this..

Perhaps the “green” angle is no longer a winner and desperation is showing?

This is commonly known as “Smart Growth.” It’s part of Agenda 21 to encourage people to live in dense areas, cities to combat “suburban sprawl.” To the liberal urban planners, a crowded gun free Chicago is morally superior to gun totting country bumkins.

Penalizing the productive ones who go to work every day. Typical statist bastard.

Sounds like LA, we now have train stations with no parking lots, you must either walk, taxi, uber, or get dropped off. No cars allowed lol

Plus the sheep are easier to control and drive to the slaughter house on slaughter day.

A public service of the greater Broward anti DESTINATION league. Also, having to drive around Tampa, fortunately just once in a while I’ll never EVER complain about NYC traffic again.

Many of the transportation “leaders” around WDC have had that attitude for years. That’s what you get when you put LIB idiots in charge. People find ways around their idiocy.

Imagine that- a “Castro” causing people to suffer. Wonder if she is any “kin” to the dead dictator whom Jimmah Cahtah just loved? Castro is a common name, but the old boy had a lot of “spawn” from his various mistresses. Any connex of this Anne Castro to the Ros-Lehtinens?

Don’t know how people in Broward get along. It’s not enough to have a toll road turnpike and I-95. And the surface roads like driving through Caracas.

And a second question— does the light rail from N. Miami extend into Broward— and if so, does anyone use the rail they already have for public transport (ie. money already spent, and condemnation of private land already completed?)?

For the last 8 years the Feds (DOT under their "Environment section) has offered cities federal dollars to REDUCE busy streets from 4 lanes to 2 lanes & use the remaining footage for bicycle lanes and wider sidewalks. It's their answer to congested streets (HA!!!!) Scroll down the page to "Road Diets". Also, Barcelona has taken this idea to the extreme - here are the links: http://99percentinvisible.org/category/cities/, also: https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/bicycle_pedestrian/funding/funding_opportunities.cfm

apparently the concept of public service is dead in Florida. Having been replaced by a fascist dictatorship that arrogantly shoves American citizens around like we’re cattle who have to be prodded into the slaughterhouse.

We are way past Agenda 21 to Agenda 2030. Vast numbers of small cities, and most States already have implemented their regulations. In Washington State they now require the filing of Environmental impact statement and a study of how the drilling of a water well will affect the environment, and the level of the water table. IN WASHINGTON . Where I live you can take a shovel and make a well before you hit 5 feet. Of course along with the shutting down of community wells that are practically free, and placing people on city wells that cost me approximately $100 a month, $20 of that for the water. The other is for access to the water, and of course a hookup to the city sewer which comes as a package deal. They made everyone remove the septic systems. This in a city of 1,200, with a 5 minute walk to “Little House on the Prairie”.
