Haven’t seen it yet, but I hear the Mel Gibson flick is pretty good. I loved ‘We Were Soldiers’.

“And the winner of this year's Affirmative Action Oscar is...Barry Soetoro.”

This will go very nicely on his mantel next to the 2008 Affirmative Action Nobel Peace Prize. Soon to be joined by, the richly deserved Worst President Ever Medal currently being forged by Donald J. Trump.

I came across this on another site about last year's Oscars, but it's still relevant, and contains a bunch of historical observations on the awards.

Mini - Canon: "Oscar Bait": A History

The "crusty old white men" are addressed at around 8 minutes if you want to skip the when and why the Oscars started becoming irrelevant to the average movie goer that just wants to be entertained.

Maybe it’s because Denzel Washington and Viola Davis really deserved the nominations for their unbelievable performances? Octavia Spencer was very good as well, but not in the Viola Davis range.

So how much of the process was skin color and not acting skill?

For Washington and Davis? Zero. Their performances were what the Oscars are supposedly all about.

The DOJ went after some NY symphony for not having enough blacks, even though the auditions are done blind, behind a screen, and based on musical skill.

Oscars?

So it is that time of year again. This is where the useless non-productive get celebrated by their peers. A full auditorium of self congratulating non-entities cheering on the air heads that give you more sex and violence per hour daily all the while expounding on the dangers of violence and attempting to control the masses with their genius, of witch they will tell you about every day.

“Now watch the Hispanics complain. And how many LGBT-based movies were nominated?”

Hold on now - the correct number was supposed to be EIGHT blacks. We have to address that atrocity before we can begin pandering to the other victim groups.

"For Washington and Davis? Zero. Their performances were what the Oscars are supposedly all about."

But their nominations are now tainted because of the emphasis on race. That is one of the problems with affirmative action hires, nominations, awardees, etc. The merit decisions get swept up in the numbers race and made suspect.

Doesn’t matter; seven noms probably won’t be enough.

That's why they're independent films, all about gay cowboys eating pudding.

Only movie I have any interest seeing is "Hacksaw Ridge".

Horrible movie with cartoonish war scenes. There's a reason that libs (and the Academy?) love this movie.
