Ok so I dont own freerepublic only Jim does. But we support it. Can there be an official report why on one of the most important days of crossing the finish line FR was down? Can that be explained please? Maybe we need to hold a special fundraiser to have a alternative data site and professional server managers that can handle contingency issues? This is by no means a criticism of Jim. But it was like being locked out of our own celebration at the club we belong.

Yes just a basic site would be fine.
I agree with the question. If we are a family we need to be in on the good and the bad.
Everybody was over on Facebook. Where were you???
I am assuming there was a really good reason for the site being down. My first thought was someone hacked into it & brought it down.
What I did realize is how much I missed everyone! I trust Jim & I donate. Just happy it’s back up.
You rang?
Sure. We could take this site away from Jim, sell banner space, increase usage fees and turn it into a financial giant. It is actually that valuable and influential.
Or we could be thankful for what we have and provide Jim all the support he asks for.
No doubt the folks who come here and are not supportive financially should help out. It would not take much to increase the quality of the equipment, just responsible readership doing their part.
Thank you Jim for this most magnificent labor of love and faith.
From my understanding they used to have a redundant setup. Redundancy however comes at a cost. The best ways to do this is via VMs (Virtual Machines) with a redundant Datastore. The initial cost can be considerable, but over time the costs will be limited to hardware upkeep/life cycling.
WalkingFeather has been around since 1999, so let’s hold off on the zot issue for a minute.
First of all there are a lot of people on this site. And an event like Trump’s Inauguration likely crashed the servers due to load. Was I surprised by this? No, not really. I actually did anticipate it and like websites that get overwhelmed it happens.
Second, there are now two alternative sites available. One is on yahoo and the other is on Facebook. So there are some ‘free’ contingency sites available. We had a good time on the FB site this weekend.
Third as I said over there...in many ways I was actually OK with FR crashing. Why? It made me sit down and really watch, observe, listen to the whole day on Friday. It allowed me to remain and be in the moment of history. It allowed me to take a minute to pray for our future.
Demanding an explanation? Naw, even if FR has the capacity to handle things on Friday...I bet it still would have crashed.
Dude...back off the coffee.

What is Facebook??
It happened on Inauguration day. Probably hacking. We don’t need to know. It’s back up. I missed it!
I would like to suggest that the group privacy setting on the facebook page be changed from open/public to closed. Most of us on facebook use our real names and that’s prohibitive to being able to freely participate as deplorables.
Don’t do Facebook.
The bridge hated when I called an engineroom casualty!
“Its broke, leaking everywhere, we are doing our best. Pipe me some runners down here. Maybe back online in...(multiply repair time X5), If I dont get back with you in 5 minutes you better call GQ.”
