WalkingFeather has been around since 1999, so let’s hold off on the zot issue for a minute.
First of all there are a lot of people on this site. And an event like Trump’s Inauguration likely crashed the servers due to load. Was I surprised by this? No, not really. I actually did anticipate it and like websites that get overwhelmed it happens.
Second, there are now two alternative sites available. One is on yahoo and the other is on Facebook. So there are some ‘free’ contingency sites available. We had a good time on the FB site this weekend.
Third as I said over there...in many ways I was actually OK with FR crashing. Why? It made me sit down and really watch, observe, listen to the whole day on Friday. It allowed me to remain and be in the moment of history. It allowed me to take a minute to pray for our future.
Demanding an explanation? Naw, even if FR has the capacity to handle things on Friday...I bet it still would have crashed.
I would like to suggest that the group privacy setting on the facebook page be changed from open/public to closed. Most of us on facebook use our real names and that’s prohibitive to being able to freely participate as deplorables.
We don't know what caused it. That's strange.
Many of us are concerned about the site. Many of us figured it had been taken down by some anti-Trump group. I sure hope that's not the case.
No sense of humor, I see!
Where? I never could find it. And, no, I don't faceboob.
What I was mad about was when DU was off line for almost two weeks after the election. I missed so many liberal tears, so many hysterical rants, so much squabbling, retribution and blaming that I will never get to see.
Now THAT's a disappointment.
It’s called “capacity planning”...to include some load testing to ensure that your site and system can handle an anticipated load and multiples of such. For the $350K annual budget for FR and for a site that hasn’t been improved or enhanced in a very long time, one has to wonder where that $350K goes each year. Some failover/redundancy is hardly too much to ask for - especially on one of the most important days in recent history. Flame away, but sometimes the truth hurts...
