Few terms are as divisive in today's United States as "political correctness." A concept that was intended to create greater freedom in the country may instead have resulted in the opposite. It also helped strengthen the right wing.
It's a Friday afternoon in Oberlin, Ohio, around one month before the country heads to the polls to elect Donald Trump as its next president. The final classes and lectures of the week have just ended, and a young woman comes walking by in bare feet with a hula hoop gyrating around her waist while others are performing what seems to be a rhythmic dance to the African music that's playing. Two black students are rapping.
It's the kind of scene that could easily play out on a beach full of backpack tourists, but this is unfolding at one of the country's most expensive universities.
Many female students here have dyed their hair green or blue, they have piercings and their fashion sense seems inspired by "Girls" creator and millennial star Lena Dunham, who, of course, also studied here.
In such a setting, it seems almost inconceivable that this country could go on to elect Donald Trump as its president only a few weeks later. Yet pro-Trump country is just a few miles away. Oberlin is located in Ohio, one of the swing states that made Trump's election possible. Drive five miles down College Road toward town, and you start seeing blue "Trump Pence 2016" signs on people's lawns.
Places like Oberlin are the breeding grounds of the leftist elite Trump's people spoke so disparagingly of during the election campaign.
Only a few months earlier, a handful of students claimed they had been traumatized after someone used chalk to scrawl "Trump 2016" on the walls of buildings and on sidewalks at Oberlin and at other liberal

Very enlightening. These people are nuts. They are so bad that the protesters from the 60's can't deal with or understand them.
I knew they were nuts but they are even nuttier than I thought. God help us if these people get their way.
Yes I have!
if you want to see PC gone off the rails in detail, watch the following:
It’s the UMASS College Republican event immortalized by TrigglyPuff. Be warned, however, Milo Yiannopoulous is a speaker. There is profanity, and there are allusions to homosexual behavior.
But, there are two other speakers who are quite good as well, one of whom is a FReeper.
It was never on the rails to begin with.
PC by definition IS off the rails.
Look closely. The spirit of “Political Correctness” is the spirit of antichrist, hateful of the Spirit of Christ and those who have Christ.
PC and the spirit of antichrist will take those destined for destruction right into the seven-year horrific Tribulation which is yet a few decades away IMO.
I use that as a tagline for me email at work. Managers and HR types fear and loathe it. The rank & file love it. That alone tells me everything I need to know about PC. It was never intended to "create greater freedom" - it was intended to control people through intimidation and coercion.
The rise of Trump spells the death of PC. A pox upon the lefties who worship it.
Took me a few seconds to figure out your post.
The PC lefties have not given up yet.
No it wasn't. It is nothing other than a form of mind control that was brought to the level of an art form by the NAZIs and the Progressives picked it up and polished it to perfection.
It's a weapon of propaganda intended to separate friend from foe and keep friends from ever straying from the agenda.
The article completely misses the orgin of political correctness. It is a term from the communist organizations in the U.S.
It started out as a rejoinder to a claim of fact.
One comrade would say: “That is factually incorrect.”
Yes, he would be rejoined, “but it is politically correct.”
The obvious point is that political correctness has nothing to do with objective fact, and everything to do with advancing a leftist agenda.
“A concept that was intended to create greater freedom in the country...”
Bald faced lie.
Political Correctness was brought to the US by members of the Frankfurt School of Marxism and was meant only and expressly to force people to limit what they allowed themselves to think by forcing a limit on what they could say.
Political Correction was also specifically made to change constantly so anyone could be targeted for punishment for not being perfectly in tune with the day’s permitted speech.
We’ve all come to look for Amerrrrrica...
...except those of us who’ve been living in it all along.
Pure unadulterated crap.
Theodore Dalrymple: “Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. Ones standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to”.
Our colleges and universities are filled with idiot trash who think PC is a great value.
I made a statement the other day that 75% of our colleges and universities could be nuked from earth. And that would be a good start.
Some one actually called me a liberal. Here at FR!
I knew it!
