On Dec. 19, 2016, Kansas game wardens came to the home of Mark and Kim Mcgaughey regarding a deer they said the family kept illegally as a pet. The mule deer doe, which the family had named Faline and which they had had for about 22 months, was eventually shot and killed by game wardens a few minutes later on the property. A western Kansas family is angry that game wardens killed a deer that had been their pet for 22 months and was like one of the family. Kim Mcgaughey said the deer would butt its head on the door to be let inside the house, go on walks with the family, snuggle with people and play with her grandson and dogs.

here where we live the wardens are nice guys...were deal with them almost every year..
the county we live in you can own what ever animal you want...county sheriff has to be informed first...you should see what these folks run on their farms...family farm a few doors down from our farm has MONKIES in a huge cage...another one about a mile away has a huge enclosed pasture with 12 foot fence with them little deer in it..to each their own
So much for “catch and release”.
I visited a state park frequently.
Every time I went back there were more signs added: ‘DO NOT FEED DEER.’ Eventually there was a sign every 100 yds which certainly didn’t add to the natural beauty of the place.
The next time I visited the place, what do I see? Multiple carloads of Yankees pulled over and hand-feeding the deer.
I gave a nice long blast on the car horn and the deer forgot about the buffet line rather quickly.
I think this is because of officials fear the spread of wasting disease in local native deer populations.
I’d have donated a match.
We made the mistake of calling on an animal rescue organization for an orphaned baby rabbit. The woman said she’d be happy to kill it for us. She said the moment I put it on the hood of her vehicle, it was in her possession and hers to do with as needed. I came this close to punching her. I grabbed the cage and told her what for. Never again.
I have had experience with deer like this. They are usually orphans, get raised with the livestock. Even though they are treated as pets, they return to their wild instincts after a couple of years. They can not stop themselves.
I don’t dispute they have a job to do, but candidates for hire might be better vetted for common sense and arrogance; especially because they have special police powers along with the badge...
Pulled one of CO’s DOW wardens out of deep snow she stuck herself in NW of Craig CO one bitter, blizzarding Jan afternoon a few years ago...
No chains, inadequate clearance for the terrain, and no proper clothing for conditions...
Regret it still...Should have let call for help or her fat ass walk...But was afraid she wouldn’t make it and didn’t want that on mt head...
Twelve and a half miles from town is hardly a neighborhood. Read the story.
Our tax dollars paying for these Rambos. And it took that many of them?
I agree with this comment below the article:
“This is more than just the killing of the family pet deer. It’s a absolute violation of the constitution. They can’t issue a summons for a crime and then carry out a sentence a few hours later with no due process. I would hope this family pursues a civil lawsuit.”

Besides, the deer was free to go at any time it wanted.
Deer are wild animals. They aren’t pets. Keeping them is illegal for good reason. If you keep one in your house, don’t be surpised when the warden shows up.
My granddaughter goes to a “nature school”. It is a pre school where they spend as much time outside as possible.
One of the things they do every day is take a “goat walk”. They have a field with numerous goats and the children all walk the perimeter with the goats. A deer was born in that field, and has grown up with the goats. It now walks with the goats and the children.
It is free to go at any time. Its mother comes and goes as she pleases. I guess he just thinks he’s a goat.
I feed the deer all the time. They eat whatever they want whenever they want it, in my yard.
Shrubs, Myrtle, berries, nuts, yellow lilies, clover, roots & shoots, like I said, whatever they want.
Why are they morons and why would YOU give a shit unless you are obsessed with managing people and things?
About the only thing I can see they did wrong was not have their property properly gated and secured against trespassers...
I’vea had several run-ins with Forestry Service types. Many of them are sniveling fascists. Real power trip freaks.
We used to drive by a place in Idaho that more often than not had a big buck on the front porch, often laying on a couch on it with its feet sticking out watching traffic.
.
I hope somebody had the sense to put the Game Warden out of his misery.

.
Yep, they should have euthanized you.
.
That also brings up the point that whenever you interact with an agent of the (any) government you get names, and preferably any answers in writing.
