Archers to the rescue in Madrid as boars invade urban areas
AFP ^ | January 3, 2017 | Staff

It's a scene straight out of mediaeval times set in modern-day Madrid: an archer dressed in camouflage gear, stationed in a tree at night, waiting for the kill. For five years, the authorities in the region have resorted to this unusual technique to cull wild boars encroaching on towns, relying on 55 volunteer bow hunters to eliminate pigs that take too much of a liking to urban life.

As long as this is done by volunteer archery enthusiasts I see nothing wrong with it. If it couldn’t control the population there are other noisier options available. Looks like a win-win to me.

30k to 40k boars in Madrid. 55 archers. 201 boars killed in 5 years.

Don’t think the boars have much to worry about.

Madrilenos should set up outdoor `parilladas’ and roast all that boar over an open fire. Delicioso!

Hell yeah! But it still has to have that “EARL’s Pork Butt Rub” and some Good old Williamson’s Barbeque sauce to go with!

When Boar hunting with a bow, the boar wins frequenty.

The boar has very few vulnerable spots from the front, so the chances of killing him when charging with only a bow are limited.

In Texas, they hunt wild pigs from helicopters using machine guns:

One our younger relatives has killed elk, white tail deer, mule deer and California deer, antelope, wild turkey and wild pigs with his bows and arrows. He harvests several wild pigs a year.

After he gets his kids through college, he would like to hire out as a pro pig/boar hunter on the west coast and in Hawaii.

He practices with his compound bows at least 3 times a week and keeps 40 pound weights by his work desk and his lazy boy at home to work out a little each hour.

They need more range time.

Sounds like they need to set up a network of people being harassed by the hogs and hunters.

Really. They are a menace in Texas and there is no limit on numbers or methods. They just want them dead. My husband tries to help out now and then :)
