Steve Sarkisian will assume the duties immediately.
In a deviation from the original plan, Lane Kiffin will not call plays for Alabama in the National Championship. Instead, hell head to FAU early and assume his head coaching duties.
The timing of this is fairly interesting. Kiffin was originally slated to stick around. Former Bama assistants Jim Mcelwain and Kirby Smart stuck around for the Tide balancing their new head coaching duties and coordinator responsibilities in Tuscaloosa.
Now the responsibility will fall to former Washington and USC coach Steve Sarkisian. Sark has been an offensive analyst with the Crimson Tide. He didnt exactly impress folks with his playcalling at previous head coaching stops.

Thanx this was the first game I saw this ear. I’m a UCLA USC guy and don’t necessarily like the Tide, but they are on their way to re-writing the record books. It’s also nice to know USC coaches who mess up will have job security in Birmingham.
Looks like King Nick has his excuse built in when Clemson pounds them in the championship game...
Watson will make the throws the Washington QB missed. I expect Bama will have a dog fight on their hands with Clemson. Their defense looked outstanding against Ohio State.
Yeah, but will alkie Sark be able to mentally handle the proscribed ass chewings by Nick Satan...
One call always dream, I suppose.
I’m sure this (above) was a final nail.
Kiffin was just replying to a comment Saban made about “ass chewings” if I recall correctly.
Clemson may win!
I honestly believe that Ohio State would have lost to Boise State. Until we take rank politics out of the national championship it is a joke. We need 32 team playoff like every other college sport. Then we would actually know the best team and not have it told to us.
“Saban pulled Kiffin out of the scrap heap. He failed everywhere he coached.”
Kiffin play calling in several games sucked. I wanted Saban to take Kiffin’s head set away and start calling plays earlier than he did. Kiffin is still a west coast offensive coach... throw the ball ...throw the ball...throw the ball. Alabama is a running team and it seems to take to the 4th quarter for them to quit the passing crap and run it and it works.
Kiffin came to TN and brought his father in law as defensive coach. He was a lousy coach and got TN in trouble for recruiting violations. It has taken years to get TN almost back up to where they were before Kiffin. Butch is doing a good job.
Glad to get Kiffin out of the SEC.
Make no mistake, this move says Saban thinks the team is better off without Kiffen. We’ll have no fancy pants offense against Clemson. Run it down their throats.
Bullshit. Saban is tough but fair and has given coaches a second chance after being previously fired, which happened to both Kiffin and Sark. Without his time at Bama, there is no way Kiffin would have a second chance at being a head coach. You can bet that he appreciates what Saban has done for him. We will see if Kiffin has actually learned anything from the Master.
Watch the Ginger coach on the sidelines when the 4th starts. He’s the conditioning coach and a total wild man. Bama conditioning is top notch.

"I think the way we went about the last game, whether it was the preparation, the practice, being able to focus on what we need to do, for our team, relative to the distractions that occur when you are trying to hire a staff [at FAU], and recruit at another place, and all these types of things," Saban said. "Hey, Lane did the best he could. It's a difficult circumstance. We certainly wish him well. We both had a meeting [Sunday] and again this morning, that we thought this would be in the best interest and mutually agreed for both parties to move on."
Brett McMurphy of ESPN reports that Kiffin had been late to meetings, and that, along with other incidents, contributed to his early exit.
Yep - I don't follow team strategy too closely, other than being glad we have Saban and thinking a lot of his wife. However, I remember thinking that Kiffin wasn't the best hire and not exactly sorry to see him go. Clemson did seem to wipe the floor with their opponents this weekend, and that does have me somewhat concerned.
Guess he was wrong.

Since this was your first game to watch Bama, just wanted to let you know this was by far the worst offensive game of the year. LSU held us to 323 yards, but we played in Baton Rouge at night and played to not make mistakes.
The Washington game was ugly. Our offense is much better than that. Credit to Washington, too. But Bama O is better than that.
I remember Kiffin from his Tennessee days. He was a jerk then, and has remained a jerk. Sometimes people learn from their tough experiences in life. Kiffin isn’t one of them. I wish he couldn’t get a coaching job anywhere. He is not a good role model for young people.
