After generations of his family spent their lives as outlaws for making the infamous Irish poitín, Pádraic Ó Griallais has finally been able to carry out the family business in the open just under a decade after the spirit was outlawed.
Taking a career break from his job as a high school teacher to establish a new business based on his old family recipe, Ó Griallais is free to produce and sell the highly alcoholic spirit as he pleases without the interference of the Gardaí [Irish police], who hounded the previous poitín distillers in his family with raids to put a stop to the production of the beverage that was outlawed from 1661 to 1997 due to excise regulations.
The production of the spirit was regulated by the Irish Department of Agriculture in 1997 but only under their specific regulations. Luckily the regulations still allow Ó Griallais to use the botanical bogbean that grows around his familys homeland around Indreabhán, County Galway, that makes their specific recipe so special.

Me too. But most days I let her sleep in.
Ba-dump TISHHHHHHHHHHH
To lay it on the line?
To lay it on the line?
Sometimes I think mine bet the odds against me.
To go upstream. They had to avoid the traffic, though...
Yes, mine as well. They don’t get paid enough...
I thought you were talking about watching the commute and laughing at the commuters.
I’m glad you’re safe.
I’m home, and I’ll make some coffee, then go out to sit with Charlie for a while, and then come in.
I tweaked my back yesterday, and it’s not very nice to me at the moment.
There was a guy at the pain clinic that must have weighed 400 lubs. He demanded to see the doctor “right away,” but guess what, Mr Rude? Your appointment is tomorrow morning, not today. But they CALLED him, and it wasn’t a recording and they told him it was today. Lies, lies, lies. Unless they have to cancel the appointment for some reason, it’s an automated call. “You think I’m lying? Why would I lie about that? I’m in pain and I want to see the doctor. And they didn’t tell me where it was, either. If they had said it was across from the Indoor Swap Meet, I would have known...” Blah-blah-blah.
But they did give him an address, but I guess Google Maps or MapQuest is just too hard for him to navigate.
Dang. What a cranky guy.
Pain does make people cranky.
I took Kathleen to Mass, since I needed to pick something up at church anyway. The “Young at Heart” club of old people was going to have a luncheon afterward, so there were many old people and tons of food. Now I’m not sure what I’ll do ... maybe nap. I’ll have to check with Jake.
James can play a computer game, since it’s his birthday.
Oh my gosh! Happy Birthday to James and Kathleen!
Kathleen is 5 and James is 13.
Wow. Kathleen was still in diapers last time I saw her. :oO
And James was a little tank.
And I’ll be the product of their ages a LOT sooner than I want to think about.
I just found out that my son lost his job last night. He was with the company five years and did an excellent job, but I guess some politics are just to ugly to get into. The company was known for keeping employees, but I guess he was too conservative, or too white.
Dang. It makes me want to cry.
I have a ways to go.
I’m very sorry about your son. Hope he finds something new soon ... I know you’ve said he has a lot of skills and is a hard worker.
He will do what he has to do. Lately, he has been rebuilding VW engines, and since spring is coming, he can always use his lawn/handyman skills. He will draw his unemployment until such time as he has found something else, and push-comes-to-shove, he will deliver pizzas. Maybe I’ll suggest he can be an Uber driver in the interim.
He was so happy with what he was doing. The worst part of this is that he has to send money for his son’s support in the mission field. No matter what, he will see to that obligation.
Jamie My Hairdresser delivers for Dominos. She likes to drive.
The females here don’t allow the network engineer to non-fix glitches. Although of late most issues seem to be Telco initiated and thus beyond the control of the net engineer...
A downside is that they also do not allow the net engineer/sys admin to take the network server off line for minor things like maintenance. I’m thinking if and when that is allowed he will find copious quantities of felinefur residing in the innards. He has informed me that he knows at least one interior fan has expired (it was emitting audio in the death-throes range a while back) which will need to be rectified before the glowbull warmthing produces temps in the long hot summer range..
And I already beat you to it..
