Poitín now legal to drink in Ireland as first license given [Poteen, moonshine]

After generations of his family spent their lives as outlaws for making the infamous Irish poitín, Pádraic Ó Griallais has finally been able to carry out the family business in the open just under a decade after the spirit was outlawed.

Taking a career break from his job as a high school teacher to establish a new business based on his old family recipe, Ó Griallais is free to produce and sell the highly alcoholic spirit as he pleases without the interference of the Gardaí [Irish police], who hounded the previous poitín distillers in his family with raids to put a stop to the production of the beverage that was outlawed from 1661 to 1997 due to excise regulations.

The production of the spirit was regulated by the Irish Department of Agriculture in 1997 but only under their specific regulations. Luckily the regulations still allow Ó Griallais to use the botanical bogbean that grows around his family’s homeland around Indreabhán, County Galway, that makes their specific recipe so special. …

I told my daughters and I tell any young female who asks that men are essentially worthless until they fall in love. There is no other motivation to grow up and become a “responsible adult.”

All the good ones are taken, because the women who to them made them good ones.

He’s decided that it’s our ISP, trying to “help.” GAH.

James the Further Additional Son wants to come to Walmart and get a Lego set. He wants one that is $45 but has only $40 to spend. Ah, the trials of life ...

Would an earworm do?

In the jungle the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonight.
Weeeeeeeeee-ooo-oooo-weeee-ooo-ooo-wee-oo-bom-bolay

That should be good for a few hours.

Being forcibly invited to leave home would be a motivation! However, we’re not doing that, just incrementally raising the cost of living here until it approaches the cost of living independently.

You don’t have any chores worth paying $7 for that need being done?

Speaking from experience being forcibly invited to leave home won’t motivate a male of the species to become a responsible adult. It will motivate him to find other sources of support, which might even include getting a job. But supporting yourself is not the same as being a responsible adult. My son is a prime example.

But teaching someone to work hard for something he wants is a good thing.

Plus, if he really wants it you can pay $7 for a $15 job.

Yeah, right. Fetch me a hamburger, kid.

Some days I wake up grumpy. You know the drill.

Thanks but I’ve had an earworm of my own for four days now — Santa Lucia. CFIDS gets them and doesn’t like to let go. I’ve had some that lasted a week.

Why did the chicken go half way across the road?

It rained most of the day yesterday, this morning we have snow.

Snow on top of ice.

The morning commute should be interesting...

I had an earworm ... something from “Hamilton.”

Turns out Walmart didn’t have the Lego set James wanted most, but it they had one he liked tolerably well for $30. Serendipity!

They also didn’t have Great Value shredded wheat squares. I had to pay more for Post. It looks like they’re changing the packaging of the Great Value dry goods again.

I just saw a clip on FB posted by my nephew in CO: fish (salmon?) swimming across the road where the creek had overflowed it’s course. Pretty funny!

It’s raining, and I’m going to head for Walmart to pick up a thing (baby ASA) and then I’ll head out for Vegas.

I’ve already said my prayer for the day, but I may say another when I get behind the wheel, just to alert my Guardian Angels. They work pretty hard for me!

And they will be busy this morning, for sure.

Oh, yes...I saw Zeke. He said Chuck is doing exercises on his own, the swelling in his left arm is gone, he is talking better and wants to come home. All are excellent signs!
