Poitín now legal to drink in Ireland as first license given [Poteen, moonshine]

After generations of his family spent their lives as outlaws for making the infamous Irish poitín, Pádraic Ó Griallais has finally been able to carry out the family business in the open just under a decade after the spirit was outlawed.

Taking a career break from his job as a high school teacher to establish a new business based on his old family recipe, Ó Griallais is free to produce and sell the highly alcoholic spirit as he pleases without the interference of the Gardaí [Irish police], who hounded the previous poitín distillers in his family with raids to put a stop to the production of the beverage that was outlawed from 1661 to 1997 due to excise regulations.

The production of the spirit was regulated by the Irish Department of Agriculture in 1997 but only under their specific regulations. Luckily the regulations still allow Ó Griallais to use the botanical bogbean that grows around his family’s homeland around Indreabhán, County Galway, that makes their specific recipe so special. …

I don’t trust my ability to self-edit, but if it were perfect, it wouldn’t sound like it was coming from the community at large. I don’t want it to be perfect, but I do want to address the things that no one here knows how to face and find a solution for.

And so, my brems are tard.

I was going to go to Walmart today and get some yogurt, but I just didn’t feel up to it after meeting with Zeke. Maybe I’ll go in and take a power nap. Maybe.

I woke up in the middle of the night not being able to breathe again, so I had to have a breathing treatment before my lungs would behave. That’s two in the last five nights. I don’t like that.

I’m thinking of a power nap, myself. The right side of my head feels terrible.

I would have placed some commas differently, and therefore has an -e on the end. However, it is organized, clear, and straightforward.

I debated therefore, because it didn’t look right, and the word program didn’t underline it as being misspelled. Dang. I thought of not even bothering with commas, but my hands overruled. My brain was getting beyond tired and I couldn’t find another mistake if my life depended on it.

It’s the result of two weeks’ plus worth of effort, and I’m sick of looking at it.

But thanks! I didn’t mean to sound rude, there. I just came in from outside, and never did have that power nap.

I got busy trying to find the template for the address labels. Still, no luck. And I need it.

"... trying to find the template for the address labels. Still, no luck."

You should keep it with your label stock. They may even have one in the package.

Plan B is to make your own; use the label stock as a pattern.

I have gone to Avery but all they give me is an online version that does no good to me. It’s difficult to navigate, since they want to do the printing and take my money. There is one on the laptop with Win 7, but I can’t get into it, having forgotten the exact password.

I tried the one for OpenOffice, but the only templates I can access easily are for resumes, and I don’t need that. I need the template I can use and re-use for addresses, one at a time, or an entire page.

I used it for my own address labels, but now, I can’t get it to do anything but give me two pages of script. So I’m frustrated and going in to play some mahjong.

And FYI, it’s 5160 for Win 10. I even went to the OO forum, but don’t know how to navigate it. So I need to get away from this awful thing I started.

Worst of all, my laptop just stopped and I had to reboot in the middle of trying to find the template I needed.

Could you hand-print the labels? You have perfectly nice handwriting!

Thunderous storms and windy rainhail passing us. Looks like the NYC concrete canyons are going to get a flushing.

Which is not quite the same as being in Flushing...

Sally has hatched a litter of black widow spider babies.

On an unrelated (to black widows anyway) note. there are two fire police flashielight vehicles out in front of the house directing traffic down the T side road. I heard no sirens and we haven’t lost power so at the present moment it is unknown what is transpiring.

If I feel like slogging through the sloppymess I might venture forth to ask nosey questions..

No, not that I’m aware of. She’s going to take them out in the woods once the survivors emerge from the egg sac.

That or a tree/wind/something felled powerline..

Usually with an accident you hear sirens as they are responding even if it is down the road a piece so I’m leaning toward the downed power line or possible just a tree down on the road. The wind was rather intense for about 15 minutes..

Do you have power?

We’ve had gusty wind all day, but it seems to have died down now - I’m not hearing the wind chimes. It’s supposed to get cold tonight. I’ll close the windows when the temperature here in the dining room reaches 70.

Yes, we have power. It didn’t even flicker which is the usual if a powerline short happens (usually around 2:30 AM when the bars close..) As I was looking at the local vassal of ConEdison’s outage map the flashie light vehicles collected their orange traffic cones, tossed them in one of the two vehicles, backed up with beeping alertdevice sounding, and proceeded nominal south on the T road.

The outage map shows quite a few outages around the area most of which are listing ‘assessment in progress’ as the cause. Only one of the spots indicates ‘tree involved’ in the cause area. And at a lake community about three (crow-flying) miles northeast of me the indication is ‘poles involved’.

In the meantime since the windystuff has quieted the female feline thought she wanted back out (after all, all the evil threatening noises and flashybangers are gone) until we opened the door for her and she discovered it was still raining. Last I saw her she was sitting in my window in the bed that once was the White-furbeast-with-no-tail-to-tell’s.

Lots of excitement for your feline overlords. Shannon just went out and came back. I don’t know where Jake is. Maybe out.

Maybe she has aspirations to be the next Taylor Hebert.
