Steve Martin received backlash for a tribute he paid to Carrie Fisher on Twitter.
On Tuesday, the comic wrote in a since-deleted tweet, "When I was a young man, Carrie Fisher was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. She turned out to be witty and bright as well."
Media outlets and fans immediately turned on the comedian saying Martin’s tweet had a sexist undertone.

However, many fans came to Martin's defense saying backlash over his tweet was uncalled for including a Twitter user who screengrabbed the post.

What Steve Martin said was not PC because he acknowledged Fisher's appearance first. Maybe if he had said it last it would have been ok. But probably not. We aren't supposed to notice beauty these days, and if we do that is sexist. Lena Dunham, on the other hand, a current feminist icon will never ever in a million lifetimes have her appearance complimented by sane men.

He should have stood his ground. He has nothing to fear from these twerps. He doesn’t need them or their approval. He’s already successful, still exercising his talents however he wants, and has millions of fans. I wish he’d told the harpy critics to go jump in the lake.

I think a gay guy might be the first to notice a woman’s beauty. It’s the homosexuals who can’t see beauty. Gay people see beauty all around us. Homosexuals are blind to it.
