The Buffalo Bills have fired coach Rex Ryan and his twin brother, Rob, the team announced late Tuesday morning.
Offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn will serve as the team's interim coach for Sunday's season finale against the New York Jets.

Rex can be the next John Madden on TV.

“Defensive coordinators make crappy coaches. Ray Rhodes, Dom Capers, Mike Singletary all sucked as bosses.”
This is not always true.
A former DC named Tony Dungy did well. Winning a Super Bowl. Another former DC, Jack Del Rio is doing really well this year as HC.
Singletary was totally unqualified to be a HC, I could not believe the 49ers (well now I can) named him to be head coach after Nolan was fired. Good man but was not seasoned enough to be a HC - at the time.
Explain how Marvin Lewis is still the head coach at Cincy (other than cheap owners)? He should have been fired after last season’s debacle playoff game against the Steelers. How can you not blame a head coach when your team is out of control as the Bengals are? Either fire pacman Jones and Vontez Burfect or fire Lewis, because those two players are out of control and the head coach can’t reign them in.
As a side note, I don’t think he’s ever won a playoff game either, so there’s that also...
I’m a suffering Rams fan. While Jeff Fisher had a few good years, overall he hasn’t been anything special. We gave him enough time to tie the record for most losses. It will not be hard to find an upgrade. (although I do agree with your general point that Def Coordinators can be fine, just ned the rigth one)
Good list. Especially impressed you didn’t overlook Schottenheimer. And Landry.
I wanted Belichek for press secretry. He has such a great way with words.
Lynn has been a finalist for numerous HC jobs the last couple years (Dolphins, Jets, 49ers), and is a favorite of the Owners Terry and Kim Pegula. They basically forced the move mid-season to fire Greg Roman and make Lynn Offensive Coord.
Since the offense responded quite positively to Lynn's approach (not to mention the running game has been #1 the last 2 years and he is RB coach too) he is the one coach considered too important to the Bills to lose.
With his record of mediocrity, he’s a natural fit for LA.
“Because you can’t fire the team. “
Coach, how do you feel about the execution of your defense?
I’m in favor of it.
Scotty and Seifert, OK but Fisher is tied for the top position as loser. In history.

“What sense does it make to fire the head coach with only 1-3 weeks left in the season?
Unless things are really out of control, let em finish the year and then axe em on Black Monday.”
They get the jump on/dibs looking for/hiring the replacement.
“Just wondering. So many coaches and managers and general managers, end up getting fired but then are hired by other teams.”
Believe it or not, personalities come into play. Belichick was fired in Cleveland. The owner of Cleveland did not like Belichick. Look at him now.
It also has to do with being at the right place at the right time.
Bill Belichick being an obvious exception.
Ahh yes, the great John McKay.
The Ryan’s are the best comedy team in sports... Unfortunately, they’re supposed to be coaching teams, not teaming up as comedians.
Ryan took over the Jets with a rookie QB and got to two AFC Championships in a row. An intelligent coach would have coached that QB into being a super star, and they would have coached that team into being a post season threat every year. Ryan did neither by concentrating on his own personal gain rather than the team.
If there is one thing the Ryan’s are good at, its self promotion. As that old adage says.... There is no ‘I’ in team, and the Ryan’s are all about the ‘I’ as in their individual interest.
Hopefully the NFL owners will take a break from this failed duo, but that’s not likely to occur. The may sell a few tickets, but those sales usually dry up shortly after the fans figure out that the Ryan’s can’t coach.
Drafting Dak was luck, pure and simple. All 32 teams passed on him the first 3+ rounds.
O/T, if I'm a bottom dweller like Cleveland, SF, etc., I'd be paying big(ger) bucks to lure those scouts to my organization.
