I’m guessing fog, combined with too fast driving and slippery roads led to a famous pile up.
Happens every winter.

Early this morning I headed down to NYC on I-90 and I-84.When I got into Connecticut my GPS display was showing something like 4 hours to get to Greenwich from where I was gonna take Metro North into Manhattan. At that point I tuned to WCBS News Radio and they said that the entire Tri State region was a traffic nightmare thanks to dozens and dozens of accidents.
So I turned around.

That tanker truck looked it was moving pretty fast before it hit the side rail, flipped over it onto the road below, and burst into flames.
Amazing this guy got that shot live. Video already has over 4M views. Like a scene out of a movie.
RIP.

Do the people at cBS ever even glance at the story before writing the headline? The head line says 40 vehicle, the body, in the first paragraph says 55 vehicles. Well, which is it? 40 or 55?

Well good thing for global warming. Imagine how much colder it’d be without it. (do I really need the /sarc tag?)

The site where the accident occurred is an elevated freeway (bridges freeze before roads!) on a downgrade, leading up to a curve to the right. It’s on the northbound side. The tanker looked like it was going way too fast for conditions, so my guess is either that the driver was being reckless, or he had already lost control by that point, before he flipped off the road.
I’m not sure why someone would have been standing next to the median barrier on the southbound side filming when the accident happened, unless there was already another accident at that location that he had gotten involved in.

It’s looked and felt like snow here in NC for several days. Scattered flurries around, some freezing rain, I understand Raleigh had enough ice to cause a few traffic problems, but nothing like that.

Overnight ice storm All the trees are silver. Very pretty.
