Visually stunning! The scenes which include any of the space craft and there are a number of scenes with rarely seen Tie Fighter models, Star Destroyers, an assortment of Alliance ships, X-Wing Fighters and other craft familiar to die hard Star Wars fans from the original 1977 film.
The film makers did a fantastic job recapturing the late 1970s feel and look of the original film. Costumes, sets, space crafts, weapons, even the mustaches (!) were all perfectly in keeping with what we saw in the 1977 film. Pure nostalgia!
Through the wonders of make-up and CGI characters we thought we would never see again after the original 1977 film appear on screen. That alone was worth the film price, but I admit that the CGI is much better for some characters than others.
The story is good, but not great. It does flesh out the 1977 story a bit but adds nothing particularly significant. Those transient characters that come and go generally leave no impression on the storyline that will now in any way shape the story we are all familiar with. I found only one error at least I would call it an error with the story line that doesnt jive with what we have known for 39 years already. Its at the very end of the film and I wont give it away.
My criticisms: Diego Luna, who has been making English language films for at least 14 years, speaks like his mouth is stapled shut. I could NOT hear his dialogue at all for a good portion of the film early on.
Storm Troopers: They still suck as soldiers. They can shoot a rebel two or three times and none of the wounds are mortal. The Stormtroopers get shot once and die instantly. Felicity Jones, who probably weighs 115 pounds, and Donnie Yens character who is blind, can knock out Stormtroopers with a baton and a bo staff even when those Stormtroopers are covered head-to-toe IN ARMOR. What good is that armor at this point? The Death Troopers were a bit more impressive, and looked great.
Dang it! Another typo. Should be:
“The scenes which include any of the space craft - and there are a number of scenes with rarely seen Tie Fighter models, Star Destroyers, an assortment of Alliance ships, X-Wing Fighters and other craft familiar to die hard Star Wars fans from the original 1977 film - are amazing.
Felicity Jones doesn’t look old enough to order a beer. Let alone lead a rebellion.
Yep, very realistic looking. Saw it this morning. It was nice to see some of the characters from 77 come to life again on screen.
Fair review. And no ... nothing about Trump or any such reference was apparent. Must have been some of that fake news we’ve been hearing about.
Hey Vlad: You hacking Hillary?
Just kidding.
Thanks for the review.
Sounds like I’d like it!
Have you seen the Louisiana (I think) police force ad on youtube??? If not, go watch it now...
