Saw Star Wars: Rogue One at 2 AM this morning. Here are my first impressions of the film (No Spoilers). There's nothing anti-Trump about it as far as I could see, by the way.
Yep, very realistic looking. Saw it this morning. It was nice to see some of the characters from 77 come to life again on screen.
My kids will see it tonight. I will be eating BBQ with hubby and shopping.
Fair review. And no ... nothing about Trump or any such reference was apparent. Must have been some of that fake news we’ve been hearing about.
And Mark Hamill looked young in 1977. Jones' age didn't bother me a bit.
Hey Vlad: You hacking Hillary?
Just kidding.
Thanks for the review.
Sounds like I’d like it!
I saw it after learning that it had no anti-Trump crap in it. Plus I didn’t pay for it :-). If it’s free, I’ll go :-). I refuse to transfer a dollar from my bank account to Disney despite loving Star Wars.
Anyway ... overall, it kicked ass :-).
Not once did I get the impression that the main cast of characters were thrown together as some kind of SJW message. In fact, I found them all to be rather interesting.
I couldn’t care less if the leads are female so long as the females are hot. She *is* hot, so no big deal there ;-). I thought the rebel she was working with was more French sounding than Spanish ... I really didn’t care about that though.
The bad guys in the original trilogy, created decades before all of this SJW nonsense really hit its stride, were all old white people. However, they all had European (though Krennic was played by an Australian) accents. In a nutshell, we can imagine them as being socialist Eurotrash instead of the good Europeans that are wise to the socialists :-).
Overall, the stuff being spewed about this movie trashing the right and Trump was fiction. There was none of that. It was simply a good, solid film.
If you were to take this film and add a scene to bridge the end of it with the beginning of 1977’s Star Wars, you’d have one of the greatest 4.5 hour sci-fi epics ever :-).
The CGI to bring back some old characters is clearly CGI, but it is ridiculously impressive. You will notice it is CGI, but you’ll *forget* its CGI :-).
Overall, if you have no problems giving money to Disney, this movie is a must see if you are a fan of the 1977 Star Wars film (I hate calling it “A New Hope” or “episode 4”). There is nothing political about it ... it’s all about a group of people that set out to steal the plans for the Death Star.
Why does this matter? We're talking about a fictional movie with characters from all over the galaxy. They can't all be white.
Don’t spoil surprises for those that haven’t seen it.
“I will say a lot of the people I talked to after the movie was disappointed in the ending though.”
The ending was not very Star Wars like. I agree.
“Darth Vader did not act like Darth Vader nor was he the same size.”
I thought the same thing. David Prowse was big man - he was a bodybuilder after all - and he was at least 6’5” and they put in boots that made him look an inch or two taller. He also had very broad shoulders. The Darth Vader of this film didn’t. They did get his costume right, however, although I think Vader’s costume in Star Wars III was better.
“This was a far better movie and story line than Force Awakening.”
It certainly had more meaning in many ways for Star Wars fans than Star Wars VII did - and that’s taking into account the fact that the old cast was reassembled for Star Wars VIII!
“Felicity Jones doesnt look old enough to order a beer. Let alone lead a rebellion.”
I know. None of the rebel band particularly impressed me. I wasn’t thrilled with Diego Luna. Felicity Jones sometimes looks like a 12 year old. I thought the droid was the most interesting of the rebel band really.
I will say this: For a movie that’s something like two hours and 19 minutes long, it never got boring.
Have you seen the Louisiana (I think) police force ad on youtube??? If not, go watch it now...
“Ergo, it takes a really good trailer, full of action, X-Wings, Death Stars, and AT-ATs to pierce this conditioning and get me to take note.”
I’ll say this: there’s some fantastic footage that did NOT make it into the trailers and some of what was in the trailers did NOT make it into the film!
It was not preachy or SJW oriented that I could see. There were good guys and bad guys...although the good guys sometimes did bad things and the bad guys sometimes spoke of having good intentions.
Another masculinized feminist leads a multicultural cast against an evil white male empire. Pass. These new SW movies are a step up from the usual hollywood propaganda. The writers and directors are on record several times saying they are using these new Star Wars movies to subtly start pushing feminism and social justice. You can see clear intentional efforts to put in blatant checkboxing scenes and the recent parade of feminist protagonists. Its part of a larger push to politicize scifi. So I’m a little surprised so many selfdescribed conservatives don’t notice/care and are blindly throwing money at this along with the masses of uninformed.

I thought so too! I did not expect to see so many of the ‘77 characters. Very cool.
“We’re talking about a fictional movie with characters from all over the galaxy. They can’t all be white.”
They were in 1977! I guess the galaxy changed. :)
So you think there would be good continuity in terms of the visuals if they stiched it and the 1977 movie together?
“Have you seen the Louisiana (I think) police force ad on youtube??? If not, go watch it now...”
I did see it. I thought that was very clever. Did Disney force them to remove it I wonder?

Go see Arrival or Allied both very good.
Lighten up a bit and enjoy the movie. Not everything has to have the conservative seal of approval to be entertaining.
