PHILADELPHIA (CBS/CNN) It was a story many wanted to believe: A terminally ill child gets his last wish to see Santa and dies in his arms.
But the Tennessee newspaper that ran it first now says it can no longer stand by the account and now theres conflicting reports as to whether this happened.
The Knoxville News Sentinel story quickly went viral after it was published Sunday. USA Today republished the column, which was written by News Sentinel columnist Sam Venable. A host of national news outlets gave it additional coverage, including CNN, who spoke to Santa actor Eric Schmitt-Matzen about his interaction with the boy in his final moments.
When you get to those pearly gates, you tell em youre Santas No. 1 elf, and I know theyll let you in, Schmitt-Matzen recalled telling the boy.

You sound like a Primitive Baptist.
Can I get her number?
Others here have posted similar sentiments. Seem like a bunch of uptight Scrooges.
Too bad they can’t recognize SC as a real person who did selfless things to be like Jesus. His feast day is Dec 6, close enough to meld to the Christ Mass.
Yeah, that’s fine...
Eet
mor
chikkin.
A child who has not reached the age of reason and therefore is not responsible for sin is not going to be rejected from Heaven. The kid was only five. I doubt seriously what the Santa told the child would be considered by God to be mocking him. This is of course assuming the story is true.
What would you have told the child?
With all the medical privacy laws now, nurses cannot confirm or deny anything about a patient without family (the person/s considered medical guardian) consent. If it is true and the family does not come forward to defend Santa or give their permission for medical people to make a statement then it cannot be proven.
Or consider that the original Samta Claus was a REAL SAINT, by the name of Nicholas, coming from what is now Turkey 300 years after Jesus was born
Humbug much?
it is not unraveling. he just doesn’t want to bring the family or hospital into the media circus. just because the media cannot locate anybody willing to ‘out’ the family, doesn’t mean it isn’t true.
i wouldn’t’ tell either.
Texas Pastor Goes to Mall, Tells Kids Santa Isn't Real
...In Saturday's video, Grisham walked up to a line of parents and kids waiting to see Santa and yelled, "There is no such thing as Santa Claus. Santa Claus does not exist."
You sound completely miserable.
I’m glad I don’t know you and never will, and I regret reading anything you wrote.
Sweet...
Lib chicks in high school and college were my faves. They’re always stupid and EASY. They’d go on about “poverty” and lefty BS then I would go with “Che was my hero! Let’s get it on!”
LOL!
