The NFL informed teams last week in a league-wide conference call that "Pink October" - a three-week window in October in which the league dressed up its fields, sidelines, and players in pink to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer - will not continue in 2017.
Instead, teams will be able to choose their own cancer cause to support next season, reports Jenny Vrentas of the MMQB.com.
"It's a balancing act," says Anna Isaacson, the NFL's VP of social responsibility, when asked if this is the start of a trend "We have seen a lot of success in having focused, strategic campaigns. Focusing on one cause, fundraising for it, bringing it to life, choosing a message, spreading word among our fans. We are committed to that. But we are also committed to making sure the voice of our clubs are heard and making sure the voice of our players is heard."

Very good advice. Never thought of that one - it makes a world of sense.
I love women’s boobs as much as the next guy, but all that pink on the field has been nothing more than an eyesore.
Shut up and just play football!
I never could understand PinkTober. An insult to anyone didn’t want donations to go to Susan Komen foundation to help kill children. Plus they looked so damn stupid prancing around in pink. And that goes for the refs too.
I was urious what a VP of social responsiblity would look like.
Yeah, I think she played for the Dolphins. :-)
Good.
Hopefully College Ball follows suit.
I just started giving to Shriners Hospital for Children. They take care of Special Children. Not Butchering them.
Yeah, right. "Charities".
What's the over/under of the Clinton Foundation being involved next season?
Now all we have to do is get them to get rid of Color Rush Thursday Night Football.
Good!
People watch football to watch football, not some commentary or subtle support of social issues.
step in the right direction. when they get involved in some causes, like this one, but not others, like 9-11 memorials, they become less about sport and more about political correctness. when they allow players to disrespect their country for their personal peeves and snits, they also politicize the sport. when they start penalizing them, like maybe a 10 yard penalty assessed after the kickoff for each disrespect,i’d consider turning them back on. until then, no
You tell me.
Another Trump win!
Re trump, is the PGA going to continue his boycott of his facilities?
Finally!!!
Finally, an end to this pandering for female viewers. They can start wearing pink socks for prostate cancer awareness.
.
The irony:
A well documented, statistically controlled study established a link between early abortions and breast cancer.
.
it was nothing more than a gimmick and the big companies made millions maybe billions off of selling this crap...
I always thought a class action suit against the NBA or NFL, seeking racial quotas, would be fun to watch.
It’s purpose is to make money. And when you’re very very good at getting the tax payers to build your buildings for you, that veneer of social responsibility is very important. And really there’s nothing new about it, the NFL has been kissing charitable ass since the 70s.
...prostate cancer is a cancer of old or older men...
many docs won't even treat prostate cancer in many older patients because its slow growing...
..big difference to have people die at 25 or 35 and having people die at 85...
again, I've never been "for" special colors for any disease....its silly and to me, humiliating to have it paraded about...
