This past week we came across this movie made in 2015. If searching for a family movie to view this Christmas this might be one to consider. We did not know what to expect - but Mr. Holmes led us to believe Sherlock was involved in some fashion. It was seen on Roku, believe the channel was OV Guide but not definite on that piece of information.

Screenplay: Jeffrey Hatcher

Yes, I saw this recently and thought it was great.
Just saw a prescreening of Dev Patel’s “Lion.” It’s coming out in January and is well worth seeing.
Agree, Mr. Holmes is well worth watching with the kids.
Is your XTV still streaming as well as it did when you loaded it?
Yes, the end was very moving.
Very good film just happened to come across on Amazon Prime. Regardless of what one might think of his sexual orientation (how many actors aren’t bent?) Ian McKellen (aka Gandalf) is a superb actor.
The main compliant would be there are times when the loading is slow and it buffers often. This does not happen frequently, but when it does, it is annoying.
Re ROKU - if any have a solution (other than reset of the system completely) - please share. We wish to unsubscribe to numerous You Tube providers who once gave us FNC . These folks are no longer streaming yet their icon remains in subscriptions. Other than a factory reset, is there a more simple solution? We have no ability to unsubscribe.
The hangs seem random, no discernible pattern: XTV ran great for about a week then FNC started hanging constantly and system restarts are something I’m doing every few days, and exiting XTV altogether 2-3X/day when it goes unresponsive.
The movies, surprisingly, buffer very well, it’s the live content that’s irritating; I suppose millions of people are watching it now. I wonder if a paypal donation ‘speeds up’ server access? I google XTV all the time and there’s really no discussion of it out there.
PS even if you are irked by Matt Damon as I am, you MUST watch The Martian.

I manage my Roku account from the laptop, easier to add/remove channels with a keyboard. You do need to do a system restart after every add/remove.
thanks! Just added it to my Netflix queue. :)
I saw it when it first showed up on Netflix, and loved the movie. I’ve read the complete works of Sherlock Holmes, and watched just about every movie that was made, even watched the series with Jeremy Brett. I also enjoy Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in their roles of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, and look forward to the new series starting on PBS New Year’s Day.
Is your Roku connection hard wired? If not, that could be the problem.
Thanks for that!
Agreed, it was quite good. It’s available (or was,) on Amazon Prime, if you’re a subscriber, at no additional charge.
Sir Ian McKellan is excellent as the “real” Sherlock Holmes in his elder, declining years, who is trying to separate himself from the fictional Holmes, and trying to solve one last case that’s haunted him.
It’s really very good. I didn’t think I’d care for it.

You’re speaking to a blonde who is uncertain as to your meaning of ‘hot wired’ Our ISP being used with a wireless router. Is this your question? The roku is not actually plugged into the router/computer. Only near the two.
Never heard anything about this movie. All that was known = Mr. Holmes. Love Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson so decided to take a random opportunity and check the view. We watched and were delighted with the choice. A very different Holmes, and the story was one for which undivided attention was needed in order to follow along as it was no normal Holmes mystery like many we had seen before.
The term I used was hard wired. I have a wireless router too, but when I got my first Roku, I found that I was having problems with continuing buffering. My son advised me to connect the Roku via an ethernet cable to the router. That got rid of my buffering problems. So having the Roku connected via an ethernet cable to the router is what is called hard wired.
