Former Vice President Al Gore touted Ivanka Trump's commitment to a climate policy "that makes sense" Monday night after meeting with President-elect Donald Trump and his daughter.
It's no secret that Ivanka Trump is very committed to having a climate policy that makes sense for our country and for our world and that was certainly evident in the conversation that I had with her," Gore told Chris Hayes on MSNBC's "All In." "I appreciate the fact that she is very concerned about this."
Gore stressed that he preferred to "not give too many details" about the meeting but called it a "very intelligent exchange."
Ivanka Trump has singled out environmental regulation as her primary policy focus as an incoming first daughter, despite her father's past claims that climate change is a hoax propagated by China. Reince Priebus, the incoming White House chief of staff, in recent days said Trump's "default position" on the topic was that most of it is a bunch of bunk.
Gore described both meetings earlier Monday as "very productive" and "extremely interesting," according to pool reports.
"I had a lengthy and very productive session with the president-elect, Gore told reporters. It was a sincere search for areas of common ground. I had a meeting beforehand with Ivanka Trump. The bulk of the time was with the president-elect, Donald Trump. I found it an extremely interesting conversation, and to be continued, and I'm just going to leave it at that.
Despite Gore's endorsement of Ivanka Trump, the president-elect continues to consider Cabinet candidates that have views that run counter to the former vice president's.
Among Trump's top contenders to head the Department of Energy is Oklahoma oilman and Continental Resources CEO Harold Hamm, who was a leading voice on energy policy in the Trump camp during the presidential campaign. Venture capitalist Robert Grady is seen as another potential energy secretary pick.
Trump has considered Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson for secretary of state.
“All I ask for is 145 characters of reassurance!”
It’s not twitter, but if I typed it into Twitter it would read the same:
Trump is going to be a great president.
I find this to be VERY reassuring. Hope you do as well. Have a great day now. Peace :)
That's a simple statement really, and I agree.
We will all get a taste of what is coming this winter. Lots of snow, a few arctic blasts. Next winter however we will start to see many deaths due to the extreme cold that is coming. So regardless of what Gore does, surviving winter will start to become a national security issue in a couple years.
If you are referring to me you are profoundly mistaken. I supported Donald Trump after the nomination right on through to his election.
To be blunt, I never believed him when he repeatedly said AGW was a “hoax”, IMO that was just another in his myriad of campaign slogans to energize support. I voted for him for one singular reason to defeat the Beast, he succeeded so he has already accomplished what I required. Everything else is gravy at this point.
IMO now is not the time to criticize him for any slight real or imagined. I suspect there will be plenty with which to hold him accountable after he is sworn in, but right now there simply are no facts to support any argument against the man. He isn’t president yet even if he wanted to fight the AGW scam now he couldn’t. Wait to see what he does as president.
Right now any criticism against him will be seen by his adoring fans as “Cruz-bot” behavior. This is already evidenced by some on this thread. Wait until he is sworn in and can thus actually do something substantive. Criticism now is literally wasting ammo. I certainly hope I’m wrong in my judgement of him, and he turns out to be as much a champion as Reagan.
But I think not. Once facts are known supporting this hypothesis though, one’s criticism are too easily dismissed by the devoutly faithful. Bide your time or be marginalized as a “Cruz-bot” by the intellectually lazy.
I know Trump can and I would hope his family can spot a phony con artist when they meet one
Gore sure falls into that category
Sorry, “True conservatives” getting on the Trump train at the last stop after campaigning for months on end to suppress voter turnout for Trump is not “support”.
Global Warming on Free Republic here, here and here
AMEN!
(”Concern troll” signing in.)
Nice guys finish last, so it checks out. And Ivanka is hot, so that works, too.
We voted for Trump, so he SHOULD answer to us about why he would even bother meeting with the monumentally stupid Al Gore.
Ivanka/Gore 2024!
Not a threat. An annoyance along the lines of a mosquito’s endless buzzing.
I find that more believable than anything that Gore the Warmunist might have to say to Donald and Ivanka.
Seems likely. I sure wouldn’t bet against you.
Yeah, that’s what Trump needs to do: explain every meeting he takes to the concern trolls.
I don’t like having Nikki Haley in his administration. Trump forgot to send me a tweet explaining himself.
For the record, I am delighted by Donald's election, I supported him after the nomination as I promised to do because he was the only rational choice. I am pleased by much of what he has done as president elect.
But I am very wary of his trade policies even while acknowledging an emotional attachment to what he has done with Carrier air-conditioner. I do not think I like the precedent but I have to see how it plays out.
But the problem is that criticism of the Carrier deal has to be made at the time the Carrier deal is made or is reduced to a mere history lesson. Yet I have withheld criticism because I am not sure. Likewise, criticism of Trump's appointments must be made at the time, preferably before he actually appoints. As I said in a previous reply, very few in this forum held back their criticism of the potential appointment of Mitt Romney to be Secretary of State. If the rule is to be applied it should be applied across the board.
I do not know how a conservative forum retains its credibility if it gags itself at critical times when the news is breaking but I do understand that the cost of speaking one's mind is endless, and often mindless, brickbats. As I have said many times, I am not here to talk about the weather but to persuade and be persuaded concerning real matters of importance.
Thank you for your comments.
Damn, I have to upgrade my list of terms, I thought it was the Trump Zot Brigade.
I can see the rationale for this, if it's to ameliorate the dislocations caused by globalism and trade deals that put us at a disadvantage.
IMO, the proper way to combat these disadvantages is to level the playing field for all by reducing corporate income taxes and slashing the regulatory burden. That appears to be Trump's position, and I hope that he sees that through.
