One model with a mullet and mustache throws a 'Blue Steel' pose as he models a velour dressing gown while another similar-looking chap stands confidently in a snazzy pair of bell-bottom trousers.
These are snapshots from a range of 1970s adverts showing the most popular men's fashions of the day.
High-waist pants, skimpy briefs, synthetic fabrics and psychedelic patterns seem to be in vogue - looks more suited to the fancy dress parties of today.

By far the worst era in so many things; FEW of which caused mass fatalities or anything, but otherwise, simply deadly.
I thought the world was going to end in the 70’s.
AND THEY SHOW IT TO POEPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most of these are far from the "most popular men's fashions of the day". Maybe at Studio 54 or Warhol's studio. Nowhere else.
I don't recall seeing these gays on the Rockford Files.
These photos and the site that compiles them has been prominent on the internet for years.
The DM is often guilty of derivative, lazy ‘journalism’ but now they are simply stealing.
Hairstyles. Particularly women’s hairstyles.
Interesting to find out how many of those “Models” are deceased from AIDS.
I would wager an alarming percentage.Like 50
Apparently, every man was gay in the 1970s.”
Wrong, wrong. We had REAL men then, especially compared to now. Clothes do not necessarily make the man. At least back then guys didn’t have a limp wrist or walk down the street holding hands with another man.
Lol. And the width of the tie.
Or were told to look that way because that “is the fashion.” 70’s fashion was terrible!
I think most of those outfits have been seen on Star Trek - either as uniforms or casual wear.
I don’t recall being upset with what the ladies were wearing at the time.
My memories are of short-shorts, Daisey Dukes (not called that at the time) and halter tops. It was also the apex of the popularity of Boone’s Farm.
But looking at those ads, I did see several of my outfits (shudder) and my old stache.
The vest pants combination (the purple and brown/beige ensemble) look to be costumes in the Star Trek wardrobe.
And, the one with the jacket, from the closet of the late, James Brown.
Those shirts, slick and paisley were VERY much en vogue back in the 70’s; along with Hi-Karate and English Leather
Wait, I mean... :-(
OK, in retrospect, it was pretty amusing. She thought so, too.
Ah, how I miss my lime green leisure suit. ;O)
Go look at the old photos in a school annuals from 1950-1975.
You will notice everyone dressed nicely for school photos. No one was ashamed of looking back at their old photos.
Then the Beatles became popular. Suddenly long hair was IN! Soon people also began dressing like clowns for the school annuals. Then many began to wear Afro style hair and bling(I’m talking white people!) Now they are ashamed to look back at their old clown photos and say...”Did I REALLY dress like that?”
Me? Plain western shirt and Levis or Wranglers with cowboy boots was the thing. Senior photo was with a suit an tie.
Weird Al, is that you?
I remember some advertisement from those years.
I don’t remember what was being sold but it showed a large number of people dressed in the 1960s protesting something, then showed people dressed in the 1970s protesting something. It was mentioned that the ONE man there dressed in boots, jeans, western shirt was that they never went out of style.
