M Drive, the microwave radiation thruster capable of propelling a spacecraft without any fuel, has been heating up the debates over the past couple of years. The concept of EM Drive has been facing harsh criticism as it appears to violate the Newtons Third Law of Motion, which says that every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
In a recent development, a full and official peer-reviewed paper on EM Drive has been published online. This paper has appeared via the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)s Journal of Propulsion and Power.
While the publication of this paper doesnt guarantee EM Drives real world applications, it surely approves the methodology of the experiments. It also confirms that NASAs EM Drive constantly produces 1.2 millinewtons per kilowatt of thrust in a vacuum.

We have invented something that defies the known laws of physics. It could give the US an enormous technical and military advantage.
Instead of keeping it secret and exploiting it, we are giving it away for free.
"muslim outreach" anyone?
I heard it uses a cone. If you had two cones opposed to each other, then if you shot microwaves into one and the second would act as a collector to channel the reflected energy (the reaction ) back to the main gun.
millinewtons per kilowatt? Not exactly what I’d call ‘yield’.
It’s nothing more than a photon drive that operates in the microwave band of the spectrum.
One normally thinks of photons as being associated with light, not with microwaves, but all electromagnetic radiation consists of photons, from radio waves through gamma rays.
Old joke among physicists: Photons have mass? I didn't know they were Catholic.
My dad used to say (he was a physicist BTW) that it’s impossible for anything to be impossible.
The EM drive seems likely to have a major short-term effect in making for longer-lived satellites that did not need to rely on limited chemical fueled thrusters to maintain their orbits and orientation. In addition, by making possible lighter and more efficient space craft propulsion, within a decade or two, the EM drive could open up the Moon and solar system to relatively rapid human exploration and exploitation.
If so, the economic effects would be dramatic, creating trillions of dollars in new wealth as clean new off-world mineral and energy resources are tapped. Students may one day be asked to debate whether the EM drive was the greatest human advance since the discovery of fire, electricity, or the atom or merely since the invention of trains, automobiles, and aircraft. It really is that big a development.
I’m still saying it isn’t a reactionless drive. The laws of physics apply to this device and it’s results can be explained via other hypotheses that do not violate the laws of physics.
The "paradox" is that they carry momentum without mass, a privilege of masslessness, paradoxically.
Been following this M Drive story with interest...Thanks for posting...
IF it does indeed work, and produces measureable thrust, then it cannot be defying the laws of physics...Just means there is some principle at work not yet fully understood...
Eventually it WILL be determined what is happening, or that the “thrust” that’s been measured experimentally is an error or misunderstanding of some kind...
God’s physical universe is governed by His (natural) laws...Also known as physics, chemistry, etc...It’s up to us to figure it all out...Bad headline by the writer...
Hmm, those batteries do not provide propulsion nor power to run main systems now do they? Solar panels charge batteries and steerage comes from compressed gas thrusters, no?
Smarty pants.
Let’s try to make a manned craft cruise on miniscule amount of thrust from an on board bank of batteries and solar panels.
It’s so obvious.
Gravitons are bonding with Dark Energy.
D’oh. Not a physicist, took physics in HS and college but that’s a LONG time ago.
I did get the one right. There IS application of the laws of thermodynamics here as well. Question I think is still outstanding is how the heck does a greater flux of photons his one side of the plate but not the other?
I’m pretty sure there are microwave ovens on the ISS. Shouldn’t be too hard to cobble one of the EM drive “engines” together by scavenging parts and testing this out RFN (RFQ for my friends south/west of the Potomac).
This explains why every month I have to push the microwave back to the center of the counter. I thought the kids were doing it, now I realize it's the small impulse field it generates.
Evidence:
1. Trump becomes President Elect
2. MSM, GOPe and the Dims shown to be closely coupled
3. CAIR designated as a terrorist organization
4. The EM Drive works
5. BREXIT occurred.
We will have confirmation when Obamacare is repealed and replaced.
Enjoy the ride.
Not a physicist, but a skeptic. You win. I hereby grant you the nugatory degree of dr_lew of Philosophy in Physics.
It’s not the energy at issue but conservation of momentum. Laser light can have awesome energy but little momentum to transfer—2 gigawatt laser could levitate a squirrel riding a perfect mirror, based on the recoil momentum of reflected photons. A good cherry bomb under a garbage can lid could transfer more momentum.
